My pulse latched onto it, unwilling, traitorous, like my body already knew where it had been brought.The room opened wide, cavernous, larger than it should have been, as if the walls had been peeled back from reality itself. Shadows clung to the ceiling, rolling in waves, caught by flashes of red and violet light. They pulsed in time with the bass, making the space feel alive, breathing.Bodies moved everywhere, dozens, maybe hundreds. Masked faces glittered in the dim light, feathers and leather, gilded edges catching sparks of brightness before sinking back into shadow. The air was thick with heat, perfume, sweat, and incense.
