VanessaI opened the door. Alec stood there, unbothered. His presence filled the doorway. My heart skipped.I stepped aside, watching him walk past me.“Should you be here, Alpha?”He stepped inside without hesitation. “Should I be anywhere else?”I shut the door, leaning against it. “You’re getting obsessed with me,” I teased. “You should go back to your pregnant fiancée. She needs you more.”He shot me a look. “She’s asleep.” Then a pause. “And I’m not obsessed. Just committed to fulfilling my promises.”He stepped closer, and his scent snuck past my defenses. The space between us tightened.“What promises?” I asked, even though I already knew.“Nina said something about a massage. I’m here to serve.”My cheeks flushed. I looked away quickly, biting back a grin.“You really don’t have to—”“I want to,” he cut in gently.I studied him for a beat. He really was trying to soothe the heat I couldn't shake. Trying to be kind, in his brash, half-feral way.“Fine,” I said quietly. He gave

Today marked seven years since my father was murdered. It was also my birthday. The cruel irony of the date was a familiar ghost, but this year, it felt different.I was alone on Nina’s couch, the morning light gray against the windows. The weight of my loss settled heavily on my chest.I thought back to this day last year. On my last birthday, I had been a vessel of pure rage. I had spent the day renewing my vow of vengeance. I had tasted ash in my mouth and called it strength. Every breath I took was in service to a single, burning goal: to see Alec Blackthorn’s blood spilled on the same ground that stained my father's.But now? What was the point of fighting anymore? I was in love with the one I was supposed to kill. The thought was a betrayal. It felt like sacrilege, a desecration of my father’s memory. I hugged my knees to my chest, and my body curled into itself as if to physically contain the warring pieces of my soul."I miss you, Dad," I whispered into the quiet room, the wor

AlecAfter Vanessa’s final, defiant refusal to be my mistress, I remained with her in the quiet of Nina’s apartment. She leaned into me on the couch, curled against my side. The warmth of her body softened the sting of everything we hadn’t resolved.I hadn’t expected to feel this bothered.I looked down at her. Her head rested on my chest, and her fingers absently twisted a thread on my shirt. I could feel her hesitation building before she even spoke.“Is it normal to feel this… constant desire?”Her question caused a slow smile to touch my lips. I pretended not to understand. “You’ll have to be more specific.”She groaned and buried her face in my chest. “Come on, Alec. You’re going to make me say it.”“I’m not a mind reader, little wolf,” I murmured. She peeked up at me with a groan. “I mean…” She cleared her throat. “Every time you’re near me… my body starts acting on its own. It’s like it doesn't care what I decide. Like it’s already decided for me.”I could feel her heartbeat th

VanessaI pulled away from Alec, jabbing a finger into his chest with more force than necessary. “You left me here. For hours. Without a word.”He looked down at me, rain dripping from his hair onto his lashes. “I’m here now.”“That’s not the point,” I muttered, grabbing the hem of his drenched shirt and peeled it off without asking. His chest rose and fell slowly under my palms. I reached for a towel and began drying him off with clipped motions that lingered longer than they should have.Alec’s smile curled with lazy amusement as he watched me. “You’re pretending you didn’t miss me. Cute.”I scowled. He wrapped his arms around me before I could step away. His warmth seeped into me. For a moment, neither of us said a word.“I had to go,” he murmured against my temple and kissed my earlobe. “The meeting ran longer than expected. It was a diplomacy talk between alphas.”I pulled back just enough to look at him. “Did Lucas know?”“Yes. He dropped me off.”A silence opened like a crack in

VanessaI still couldn’t believe Alec had been that petty. He went to Maya, of all people, with that smug mouth of his, and told her to warn me. He acted like the Alpha didn’t like his precious, noble brother-in-law spending time near a servant, never mind that I hadn’t so much as brushed Caleb’s sleeve. And Maya ate it up. Looked me over like I was something she'd scraped off the bottom of her boot. Her eyes did that slow drag from my foot to my face.I left before I said something that would land me on my knees in front of the whipping post. The further I got from the main hall, the quieter it became. No footsteps clicking behind me, no sideways glances. No muttered “tch” sounds behind servants’ mouths. The smell of camphor and burnt thyme seeped from the healing chamber vents.I stopped at the end of the hall and leaned against the stone, running my damp palm over the other. A laugh broke out of me. If Maya ever found out Alec was only dangling her pride like bait to get at me, she
