She hugged Emily, not minding the IV tube. Two of them shed tears for a few seconds. “I'm sorry, sweetheart,” Jennifer said. “I didn't come to take you home.” Emily shook her head. “No, Mommy. It's my fault. I shouldn't have gone to school today. I should have taken care of you at home. I'm sorry.” Jennifer was emotional to see the little girl acting like she was all grown up.
