ASTRIDMy fingers tremble with fear and frustration as I dial my husband’s number for the fiftieth time tonight. No answer. Once again, I’ve been sent to voicemail.I catch my reflection in the floor-to-ceiling windows and can’t help but feel sorry for myself. My makeup and perfectly coiffed hair seem to mock me, screaming that once again, I have wasted time, money and effort on a man who might never love me.“The food has been served, the guests are here and the decor seems perfect, but once again, there’s no husband.” My mother sneers. “Didn’t this happen last year? You organized a feast but as usual, Nathan did not show up. What a shame!”At her harsh words, my cheeks redden in embarrassment and my eyes burn with unshed tears. Why are you doing this to me, Nathan? “I’m sure he’ll be here soon, mother. He’s probably stuck in traffic.”She scoffs.“Stuck in traffic? Do you realize that this is the exact excuse you made up for him last year but he showed up after midnight drunk as a

ASTRID“Catrina!” My father snaps, pulling his wife away from me.I massage my throbbing cheek with one hand, still reeling from shock. My mother finally calms down, but she doesn’t seem the least bit remorseful that she hit me. “I am not a violent person, Astrid. You realize that, don’t you? I only hit you because you pushed me. Your words were not very kind.”My blood boils with rage as I wait for an apology. Of course I get none. The emotional manipulation is so obvious, it makes me sick to my stomach.“Just a few hours ago, you called Nathan good for nothing. Suddenly, he’s the best option because he proposed to Claire?” I ask bitterly. Mrs. Montessori takes a deep breath. From her expression, you would think she was dealing with an unrepentant, recalcitrant child.“You’re well aware of Claire’s heart condition, Astrid. Nathan may not be the best man in the world, but your sister is in love with him and he loves her too. If you insist on holding onto your relationship, Claire’s

ASTRID He “ordered” me to get here by nine. Tsk. Exactly three PM the next evening, I arrive at my former home six hours late and ready to kick ass. Why? Because the new Astrid Reyes doesn’t take orders from anyone, especially her shitty ex-husband. I cried for two hours straight after I got off the call with Nathan last night because the heartbreaking realization that I’ve lost him forever finally dawned on me with startling, painful clarity. But right now, my hair is laid straighter than my homophonic maths teacher from high school, my Chanel dress is skin tight, clinging perfectly to my figure; and my red bottom Louboutins show off my legs in a thousand sexy dimensions. Armed with court documents, I’m ready to tear Nathan Callaway to the ground. A sense of nostalgia attacks me as I ring the doorbell. Three seconds of bated breath later, the door slams open and one of my greatest nightmares appears. Mrs. Montessori looks me up and down, her eyes narrowing with cont

ASTRID“I cannot believe you actually wore that dress, you little slut. How bold. I love it.” Gemini croons behind me as we make our way to the bar. He’s right. I’m surprised at myself as well because this dress is a crime scene. The slit goes all the way to my crotch. One mistake and my coochie will be on full public display. The back of the dress is non-existent, only held together by two thin strings and a fervent prayer. The old Astrid would never be caught dead in a dress such as this one. Infact, the last time I went to the club was the night I met Nathan. When we got together, he claimed that women who frequented clubs only did it for male validation. According to him, a real man would never sit back and watch his woman shake her ass at a club. But it’s quite funny that Nathan and his friends frequented a strip club every Friday night. I never complained because he claimed it was his way of “unwinding” from work stress and I never wanted to seem like the nagging wife.Oh, how s

SILVANI should have left Femme Fatale an hour ago, but I woke up this morning to Astrid wrapped around me like a glove, her head on my chest and her warm, steady breaths brushing softly against my ears.Something shifted inside me. I could not move. I didn’t want to. Last night was… I do not believe any word in the English Language have been invented to describe the otherworldly experience.I always thought Astrid was a shy, timid kitten, but her brazenness and boldness shocked me more than I can say.The plan was to have her for one night, fuck her out of my system and move on with my life, but her addictive lilac scent is still stuck to my skin, and I’m slowly starting to realize that what I feel for my step-sister isn’t just lust. It’s something deeper. Something more dangerous.I stifle a groan and shut my eyes as I remember the feeling of fierce protectiveness that surged in my heart when I watched her sleep this morning. The Montessori family treated her poorly for years.
