“Be my Luna, Alethea.” I held my dress in my hands and ran, tears of joy pooling my eyes. I was in bed, my heart pounding with excitement and fear when Karl’s text eventually came in. I was being silly, scared he’d changed his mind about us. I stopped running to gaze up at the sky. Only two hours until midnight, yet here I was, early and eager, unable to wait a moment longer. Tonight was the night I would escape my father’s house, and start a new life with Karl, the handsome Alpha’s son who had captured my heart. I met Karl when I turned eighteen and over the past three years, we've grown inseparable. It was only a matter of time before we'd spend the rest of our lives together. But fate had other plans. I couldn’t remember the last time Karl stuck around in bed with me for a minute after engaging in anything sexual but here he was, helping Indie fix herself after a rough banging. My mood was soured as I replayed the rejection in my head, each step I took back home heavy and hesitant. That was, until my sister’s voice snapped me back to reality. I snatched my gaze from the floor and straightened my head up, my expression hardening as I took her in. All thoughts of the jerk who’d broken my heart vanished in an instant. Lena was trembling, her body shaking uncontrollably, and her skin as pale as a ghost’s as she struggled to form a word.“T-they came again, Alethea.” With a shaky voice, she revealed but it was loud and clear. “This time, it wasn’t just bashing him up, they took father away!” That was it. Today has been a nightmare. I thought it couldn’t get any worse, and that was my greatest delusion. My wolf was already screaming his name, and I wanted nothing more than to be out of here before he gets to know we are mates. This would actually be the first time the idea of being someone’s mate scares me off. I don’t know why, but the more I think of how complicated this would make everything, the more I felt the moon goddess should never have bothered. All my life, things have always been out of my control. Things just happened and I’ve had to adjust. I get bullied for my ugliness— something I can’t change, and taken advantage of more times than I could count. “What?! Me?” I flinched to my feet without a second notice, my heart flipping scarily in its rib. He wants me to be his Luna? No way, it must have been a misheard from my end. But he proved me wrong when his response came and it was an affirmative nod. “That’s the deal. Sparing two lives doesn't come cheap so the price had to be heavy. Or do you have a problem with that?” He arched a pale brow and I swallowed hard, saying nothing. Of all the things I expected, this kind of proposal wasn’t one of them. And now, all I could think about was how I didn’t deserve a position that powerful, even if I was trading my life for it. I could feel the tension in the room, as I nervously fiddled with my dress, looking anywhere else but in his direction. I knew my whole life was in my hands, and whatever I chose now could either mess everything up or change things for the better. It was done. I signed the contract and now, I was being taken to the neighboring pack by his men while the Alpha King left in a separate ride. I stared out of the car window in silence, my thoughts scattered and restless as we drew closer to the Dark Moon pack. Does an omega like me really stand a chance in his pack? I was about to go from nothing to becoming the Luna of a pack, and I don’t think I could wrap my head around how fast everything was changing. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t seem to make sense of any of it.They never mentioned my father to me, not where he was kept or his well being. Matter of fact, I don’t even know if he was still alive. The only good part in all this was that my sister would be released and brought to me immediately after my coronation. It was their way of making sure I wouldn’t try to run. And honestly? I can’t even be mad at them for that.If I had the chance to flee with my sister and never show my face again, I think I’d take it.

My mouth hung open, lacking what to say as she came to a stop in front of me. She was staring at me in a way that made my throat bob, and I just couldn’t help but hold tighter onto the stylists’ hands like it was my life bag. Actually even if I was given a year, I don't think I could ever be prepared to meet her. She’s wearing a black dress with short sleeves that leaves her arms bare, the fabric stopping just above her knee and just enough to turn heads without even trying. She’s got the kind of beauty I envy but it’s the way she looks at me that gets me. No smile or expression, she just stood there looking at me like she’s trying to figure me out without saying a word and that made me want to run into a hole. “Alethea right?” She asked, unexpectedly breaking the silence and that was when I noticed my arms were down and the women beside were no longer there. “I—don’t understand. What are you trying to say?” I asked stiffly as soon as I could breathe again. If I hadn’t kept it all to myself, then I would have assumed it was only normal for her to find out. But I did, and it baffled me how she got to know about it when I never mentioned it to anyone. Not even the Alpha king knows we are mates. “Oh no, you poor thing. You look so scared.” She burst out laughing, her voice dripping with false sweetness as she pointed to my pale face. “I only made up the situation, after all, no one could be so sure of what the moon goddess has in store. But still, I hope not.” She admitted and she’s back to keeping a straight face and I fell into silence, my head downcast. I should have known it was all just in my head. There was no way she could have known… but yet, why was I frightened? A moment later, I heard the door being smashed closed and knew she was gone. “Y…you expect me to get pregnant from this first try? Just like that?” I stuttered, shock evident in my voice. What was she saying? How could that even be possible? You just have to make it happen, by all means, Alethea.” She replied, keeping a neutral face despite the absurdity of what she was proposing. “But what if…” I started to speak, in an attempt to reason with her but she cut in, silencing me. “He’s waiting. You should go in already.” She stated, and began to nudge me towards the door. I gasped in complete shock as the door swung open on its own,
