Author’s POV The officer leaned in closer, cigarette smoke curling from his lips as he repeated, “Do we have a deal, kid?” His hand stayed extended, palm up, waiting for Hunter to shake on it. Hunter let out a slow, controlled sigh, masking the tremor in his fingers as he gripped the officer’s sweaty hand, firm and steady, like he wasn’t terrified. “Your hand’s a little slippery, man,” he muttered under his breath, letting go quickly. “Bro, come on, let’s go,” the second officer called from the back of the truck, already jumping down with a heavy thud. “We don’t have much time.
