"Mia has a stomach bug, Nat. Since you're working the night shift anyway, would you mind filling in for her?" Shocked by the sound of my brother's warm voice, my entire body trembled. I glanced at the clock on the wall and found that it was currently 2:00 am. After staring at the busy nurses' station for a long time, I finally realized that I'd been reborn. When Mia caught me zoning out, she shoved me with an irritated look on her face. "If you agree to this, I'm going to gather my things and leave," she said. "My stomach is killing me. I need to head home and get some rest. After I leave, you'll need to remember to give the patient on bed six his fluids at 5:00 a.m."In my previous life, I agreed to help Mia out as a favor to my brother. Back then, once I got to the patient's bed, I instantly noticed that something was amiss. The young boy was practically buried beneath the blanket. I could only see his face, and he looked extremely pale under the moonlight. I was just abo

My head was throbbing. I couldn't figure out what was going on, no matter how hard I tried. Nick and I were childhood friends. He'd always protected me and looked after me like a knight in shining armor. So, why did he help Mia frame me? I buried myself in work and ignored Mia the entire night. She was pacing around the nurses' station and seemed incredibly anxious. It was almost 5:00 am by now, and she was still sitting on her chair while holding a medical tray. It didn't seem like she was planning to administer Max's next IV drip at all. Eventually, all of our colleagues left to tend to their own matters. Then, when Mia and I were the only ones left at the nurses' station, she shot me a glance before quietly heading to room 302.When it was almost time for Max's family to cause a scene, I got up from my seat and found a place to hide. Not a moment later, I heard familiar, gut-wrenching cries coming from room 302. "Wake up, my dear grandson! You're scaring your grandma.""

Crying, I cradled my red and swollen cheek and said, "I didn't give him the IV. Mia did. My fingerprints aren't even on the drug vial. If you don't believe me, check it for yourself."Mia froze for a moment. Then, she looked at me with a teary expression and cried, "Are you still trying to pin the blame on me when I've already been beaten up for your mistakes?"In the end, Max's mother stepped forward and said, "Alright, then. Let's ask the police to conduct an investigation. I'd like to find the person behind my son's death so I can make them pay for their actions." While tests were being run, everyone at the scene was anxiously waiting for the results.I wasn't feeling nervous. I didn't touch the drug vial, so there was no way my fingerprints would show up in the results. However, I was soon proven wrong once again. Nick was also present at the police station. He was quietly observing from the sidelines with a solemn look on his face.Holding the test results, David scanned

Nick was repeating exactly what he said in my previous life back at me.His accusations were incredibly hurtful. Despite the fact that I'd mentally prepared myself for this, I still felt extremely heartbroken and upset. In order to help Mia, both David and Nick were going against their morals and trying to pin the blame on me.Before I turned eight, the pair had always showered me with endless love and affection. They bought me delicious snacks and always hovered around me to prevent me from getting picked on by other people. However, everything changed once Mia joined the family. After that, I practically became invisible. Mia's arrival made me expendable.Since that was the case, I'd be better off without my brother and childhood friend.I was temporarily placed in a holding cell while further investigations went on, but I didn't feel anxious about the situation at all.Barely two days later, Max's family, the Campbells, stormed the police station once again and demanded that

"Wait!" I lifted my right pointer finger and showed it to everyone. "Look at my pointer finger. Before this incident took place, Mia caused me to injure it. So, a huge chunk of my skin is missing."I continued, "Because of the injury, my fingerprint should've been damaged. However, in David's diagram, it looks completely intact. This fingerprint must be fake."David was clearly in shock. He wasn't expecting this to happen. He even checked the diagram multiple times to verify what I was saying."You could've cut your finger yourself after the incident. How are we supposed to know that what you're claiming is true?" he challenged."All of the other nurses were present at the nurses' station when Mia cut me. On top of that, the cut was so deep that the hospital director personally dressed my wound. My colleagues can verify my claims," I responded. When Mia deliberately injured me, I never imagined that the scar she gave me would ultimately become the key to proving my innocence.Fat
