~Bethany~ I have no idea if the Vel Morin is really telling the truth that he saw nothing in my dream. Whether he's being truthful or not, I have this unspoken trust that he won't breathe a word to anyone unless I ask him to. Rushing through a bath, I hurry downstairs. It's almost noon when I get to the kitchen in my oversized tee and jeans. Jayan serves corn custard and fruits for breakfast. He cracks simple jokes about his family, upbringing, and what being born into a family of loud dragon shifters looks like. The dragon is just a spoiled prince who grew up surrounded by lots of love from his family. That much is obvious. A careful study of his life is all the proof you need. Jayan is caring, he pays attention to the people around him, and he has lots of love to give. I think the type of family he comes from contributes to his loud mouth. He's obviously used a large extended family, and family members sharing each other's burden, and maybe just being in each other's business.

~Bethany~ “Snugbug,” the dragon shifter calls me, and I almost snort at his stupid voice. “If that’s not cool, maybe we could join in on one of your family's celebrations, like other birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Valentine's Day… Your father allows gatherings, right?” Something about Jay always makes me want to offer him some sort of soothing. The boy is too soft and loving for this cruel world. “Not really,” I answer him. “You don’t have to answer them if you don’t want to, sweetheart. We don’t know anything about your past,” Jayan argues, scowling as he practically towers above me, dangerously closer than necessary. “Look, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that something doesn’t add up with you, Bethany. ~Bethany~ Jayan growls and does the same thing that got me upset and mad at him several days ago. He reaches out to gently grip my chin and force me to look at him. The contact makes my skin flush and my breath stagger. “Is that what you’ve been so afraid of? You think we’ll hurt you? You are afraid of us fucking killing you? That’s never going to happen, Bethany. Never. It doesn’t matter what terrible thing you swore to do or how much you try to make us hate you; none of us will hurt you.
