His fingers move up my body, tracing over the sheer clothing, until he rubs his wet fingers over my lips. I part them, cleaning my slick juices from those thick digits. There is something utterly depraved about the way he is making me watch everything he does to me, and I can’t get enough of it.His cock is hard against my backside, and I moan as his tongue laps the blood oozing from the wound on my neck. Ever since he bit me here the first time we had sex, this spot has become quite sensitive. I’ve stopped wearing any sort of necklace because every time the chain rubs against it, I feel strange. There’s a pressure inside me that makes me uneasy, and I force it down, trying to hide it away.“I don’t know why you think you have trouble seducing me,” Robert whispers, making me shiver. “All you have to do is breathe, and I want you.”I let out a shaky laugh, my body tingling in all sorts of places as I try to come back to reality. “I wasn’t trying to—”When did this become so easy? When

“Put the broad in her place!”“Spin around for me, sweet cheeks, and I’ll buy you that beer!”“Take off that shirt!”More chortling, and someone says, “She doesn’t need to take anything off. She’s showing her titties as it is. And a nice pair they are!”Anger churns within me.I don’t need this.Turning around, I’m about to leave when I slam into a broad chest. A pair of arms catches me.“Now, that was just rude,” I hear a familiar voice say smoothly.I go still, my head slowly tilting up to meet Terrence’s gaze.“Are you okay?” he asks, concern in his voice. For a moment, I forget how to speak, raw, visceral fear pounding within me.“F—Fine,” I breathe. “I was just leaving.”However, he doesn’t release his grip. “You’re cold, Charlotte.”“You know her?” The bartender sounds wary.“She’s my fiancée,” is Terrence’s cool reply as he takes off his trench coat and wraps it around me. “I see all of you were having a good time at her expense.”His what?!Terrence is holding me to his chest

I shove him backward. “I have to—”The sign on the wall for the bathroom is visible at the far end of the room.“You’re not okay!” Terrence tries to grab me, but I’m already running. The door opens easily; I shut it behind me and lock it. And promptly begin to throw up.I’ve never vomited blood before, but the sink is now stained with it. My belly is burning, as if a thousand knives are stabbing me on the inside. Clutching the edge of the sink, I try to stay upright as I empty the entire contents of my stomach. The blood is a dark color. In between throwing up and ignoring the pounding on the door, I stare dimly at the clots of blood. That’s not a dark red. It’s black.I’m vomiting black blood.I don’t get much time to ponder this new development as the urge to throw up overtakes me again. I retch, and more blood comes out. Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I look up into the mirror and see a clammy face staring back at me.But my eyes…My eyes are amber, just like Robert’s are

“How do you know what she’s been through?” I demand, on guard now.Ricky merely smiles at me. “I have my ways. I have kept Charlotte safe for two years. I didn’t just appear in Portland on a whim. I came here for Charlotte.”“What does that mean?” My brows knit together. “What do you want from Charlotte?”“Nothing. I just came here to protect her.”“From what?”Ricky shrugs. “Anyone and everyone, Mr. Montgomery. Charlotte is very special. She is the anchor.”“The what?”His smile broadens. “You wouldn’t understand.”“Then explain it to me.” I take a step forward, my voice threatening.“I’m not obliged to explain anything to you,” Ricky replies, giving me a cool look. “I’m not answerable to you. You should focus on Charlotte. If you say the blood had a rotten smell to it, that can only mean one thing.”My jaw hardens. “Poison?”“Maybe.” Ricky’s expression has turned grim. “Until I have a sample to work with, I can’t know for sure, but it sounds more like her body rejected something. Ch

“We have an eyewitness. A neighbor’s kid. He took photos of the vampires entering with the informant. The latter placed the call to Florian, and they must have killed him immediately after. Florian showed up, and they ambushed him at his front door. The kid took a picture of that, as well, and one last one of the two vampires leaving.”“Were you able to identify them?” I ask, feeling sick to my stomach.“Not yet, but I’ll look into it.”“Show me the photos.”Robert hesitates before taking out his phone.I study the first picture, and my heart begins to race as I see a familiar face. “That one. He’s Seth Morgan. My father’s right-hand man. He does all of his dirty work. The other one I’m not so sure about, but I think he’s one of Seth’s people. I’ve seen that face before, bu—”My voice cuts off as I suddenly remember a night from long ago, before I lost my abilities. I had been unable to sleep and wandered out into the compound, looking for my father. I heard screams and followed the s
