Something To Get Even With

Autumn“You really want to work?” Camille asked me, sounding surprised.“Why do you sound so surprised?” I asked her.“Because you don’t look like someone who works, or would want to work,” she answered.I scoffed.I would have laughed if this was really funny. If only Camille knew how hard I had had to work, especially after my parent’s separation, she wouldn’t even think of me like that. Granted, my parents weren’t exactly poor and wretched, but being that there wasn’t really a home for me to get back to anymore, working was the only way to keep my mind grounded and focused. When Susan would travel home for the holidays to be with her parents who still in love with each other and very well together, I would take on more jobs. It wasn’t because I really needed the money. My dad still sent me allowances, and my mum also fulfilled her responsibility. Neither of them ever failed in parental duties, and sometimes, I often had more than I needed, but that wasn’t enough to make me happy.

Be Careful

Autumn“Can you make that call now?” I asked Camille, unwilling to waste any more time.“You are really serious about this, aren’t you?” Camille asked, sounding surprised, as though she was expecting me to say that I had been kidding.“Yes, I am,” I said emphatically. “So please, make the call,” I urged.“Alright,” Camille said. Then she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.“Hello, Mason, I know this is a little late, but is this a good time?” Camille spoke into the phone.A little late?It was still a little bright, but then again, I kept mute and allowed Camille to do her thing.“I have a really good friend who needs a job urgently,” Camille continued. She kept talking and keeping shut to hear him respond.I couldn’t hear what the other person was saying, but I didn’t mind. As long as I could hear Camille, that was enough for me.“Yes, Mason, she really needs a job,” Camille said. “She might not have done this kind of job before, but she is a great learner,” she added. Then she

After The Sex

AutumnI didn’t even think much about what Maria said about Camille. I was too excited about what just happened for me to be worried about what she said. It was obvious that they weren’t in good terms, because from all indications, Camille didn’t like Maria either. She hadn’t even been coming to the house much since Maria’s arrival. Before Maria came, Camille was almost always here, and maybe that was why I didn’t think that she worked.Anyway, I could barely wait until morning.I got to my room and allowed myself to get enough rest, however, I didn’t get that as I heard a harsh knock on the door.“Who is it?” I asked, wondering who could be knocking like that.“It’s Dante, open up,” he commanded authoritatively.“No, I won’t be doing that,” I stated firmly and remained on the bed.His audacity was really infuriating. After all he had done, did he think he could always get what he wanted? I wasn’t going to let that happen. He had had enough of controlling things, especially when they

Meeting Up

DanteI had to return to my room with rage, but I was glad that I didn’t have to deal with Maria with the way I was feeling.“Damn her,” I said in exasperation.Autumn was being freaking headstrong, and worse, she didn’t even give me the opportunity to talk to her about meeting granduncle Gonzalez.“What did she think she was doing?” I asked myself. “She doesn’t even know how things work around here,” I added. When I got to my bedroom, it was even more difficult to calm down because it just felt like I was about to explode with fury. I had to admit to myself that it wasn’t going to granduncle Gonzalez that was pissing me off.It was the fact that she was flaunting the same man she had brought into this house in my face, and even had to slam the door in my face just so that she could talk to him.“Who the hell is he?” I asked furiously.I began to pace about restlessly.Maybe I should speak to Dominic to have me dig into him. If he was here recently, then the probability that he was st

One Destination

AutumnIf it wasn’t for Abel’s threat, I would not have walked into this café to see him and speak to him because I never wanted anything to do with him in the first place. But I had to.Thankfully, Dante had rushed out of the house this early, which had even been of great advantage to me. By the time he was leaving, I had already gotten dressed with the intention that I would get to see Abel in time, and then go off to my new job when it was time. And everything seemed to have worked out perfectly fine for me.“Why do you want to see me?” I asked Abel the moment I slipped into the chair in front of him.It was a good thing also that the café was scanty this early. I had been worried that I would be seen by an acquaintance of Dante, and he would be told. Not that I was worried or scared of Dante knowing that I was at a café, but if Abel had been another man, I really wouldn’t have minded it.“No pleasantries?” Abel asked with a smirk on his face.“I don’t have time for this, Abel, and

Divided Attention

DanteI ground my teeth in annoyance at Autumn’s stubbornness. Abel, the man with her, who had graciously announced himself as her boyfriend was no concern of mine. The only thing there was to it was that I had been able to see the so-called boyfriend that I had been told about. And quite frankly, Autumn could have done better. He looked like a freaking asshole. Even Camille would have found a better boyfriend for herself, and the way he was already acting showed that I wasn’t wrong about him.“Autumn, don’t mess with me,” I warned deeply.“And if you don’t leave me alone, I am going to scream my lungs out and cause a scene that will create a scandal that will not go away any time soon,” Autumn threatened, and she sounded serious enough for me to know that she wasn’t kidding.I wasn’t particularly moved by that even those I knew that it was something that Autumn was well capable of doing. She was bullheaded, and she could do anything, even to the detriment of her own welfare.“Is tha

Where The Threat Came From

AutumnThe embarrassment I was feeling was nothing compared to the anger I felt. The moment Abel heard Dante’s name, he began to act really stupid, and it was embarrassing.“You didn’t tell me that you have been living with Dante De Luca,” Abel had the nerve to say.He was still casting glances at Dante’s table, getting me more upset in the process.“I am not having this conversation, Abel,” I said. “And if this is the reason why you called me here, then there is nothing to talk about. I have told you times without number that nothing is ever going to happen between us again,” I added extensively, but I had a sickening feeling that Abel would not adhere to that.If he was going to adhere, he would have done that from the very first time I broke up with him, or even when he came back begging. He didn’t fly all the way here just to back off simply because I said so.“Then, the whole world is going to know about what you did,” Abel threatened darkly. “And trust me, not even Dante De Luca

Past Crime

AutumnAbel’s mouth had fallen open in shock, and I had screamed.“Stop screaming, Autumn, you are going to call the attention of people,” Abel had warned me, almost shakily.“What happened to her?” I had asked.“She is dead,” Abel had said.My breathing had increased. Yes, I knew that she was dead, but hearing Abel say it just made me more agitated.“But she was standing right there a few minutes ago,” I had said shakily.Tears had begun to roll down my cheeks.“Until you gave her that drink…” Abel had said, and I had stopped instantly.“What are you saying?” I had asked, my breath hitching.“Autumn, she was fine until she asked you to get her a drink,” he said.“And I gave her what she wanted…from her own drink,” I had countered.“What did you put in it?” Abel asked accusingly. “We both weren’t looking at you, so what did you put?” He had questioned further, much to my shock.“Abel, why would you ask me that?” I had asked, shocked to my bones. “You know that I would never do anythin

Mind On Her

DanteI had to painfully take my attention away from Autumn and her boyfriend so that I could speak to Sanchez even though he had had to leave nearly after that.“I have to go, Dante; work calls, but we will meet again to have this discussion,” he had said. And then I had to leave because I also had to attend to something really important. However, I texted Dominic to pick up Autumn from that café as soon as possible. The moment I was done sorting out what I needed to get done at work, I called Dominic.“Have you picked her up?” I asked the moment the call was connected.“She isn’t at the café, Dante,” Dominic said.“How do you mean?” I asked, my veins becoming tight already.“When I got here, she wasn’t here,” Dominic said.“Are you sure?” I asked him.“I am very sure,” he said.“And what about the young man she was with?” I asked, trying not to sound as frantic as I was beginning to feel.So many things were running through my head already. This reminded me about when we went to wat

Never A Rejection

Autumn“You must be Autumn Taylor?” A young man in his twenties walked up to me the moment I got into the building. The one Camille had described to me.“Yes, I am,” I answered. “Are you Mason?” I asked, looking at him, although I doubted that he would be.He looked just too young to be a boss, or maybe it was how he appeared. I really couldn’t tell but that was just how I felt.“No, I am not,” he said with a smile. “But Mason did say that you would be here at this time. Come with me,” he said.I followed him to another smaller space that had been designed for an office. It was a miracle that I had been able to meet up with the appointed time after speaking with Abel. Dante leaving earlier than I did was a great advantage to me because if he hadn’t left, I might not have been able to come here peacefully. He would have tried to control me as he usually did.It was even a surprise that he left without bothering me and Abel again, and I did notice that Abel’s eyes had followed Dante unt
