AutumnFrom trying to freshen up in the bathroom, I heard Dante fussing over Dominic’s silence, and I was just sick of hearing him worry himself. I had no idea what happened between Dante and the rest of the people he left behind, but it was just unappealing to see.“How do you know that?” Dante asked me.I wanted to tell Dante my experience with Camille and Dominic when I called, but then I recalled that he had been very secretive with me, so I shrugged indifferently.“You haven’t answered my question, Autumn,” Dante reminded me, as though I didn’t know that.“Maybe it’s just my turn to keep things to myself,” I stated.“This is not the time for that,” Dante warned.“Neither it is right for you to drag me along an aimless journey without as much as an explanation, or even a choice to say no,” I countered.Dante opened his mouth to speak, but it seemed as though he changed his mind at the last minute and decided not to, but whatever it was, I didn’t push for it. It was his decision no

DanteFortunately, Autumn didn’t make much of a resistance when the taxi arrived. She couldn’t anyway because there was nothing else she could do.Neither of us had a choice at this very moment.“How are we going to cope going forward, especially as you don’t even know where we are headed?” Autumn had asked, almost in tears. “Are we going to be stuck in a motel forever?” She had questioned further. She had been more afraid than upset, and it broke my heart to see her like that, but still, I wasn’t honest with her completely, and that was because I was afraid of breaking her heart or disappointing her further.“Autumn, you have had issues with trusting me, but right now, I need you to trust me completely,” I had told her pleadingly.I sensed that she was going to throw tantrums really soon if things didn’t work out well, and in all honesty, I couldn’t even blame her. We had been on the road for more than two days now. I had run out of money. We had both had to manage nights in motels,

DanteAfter Autumn was taken to the room she would be staying at, I had expected Romiro to do the same, but he didn’t.“Come with me, De Luca,” he said instead.I followed him out of the building, and he began to walk to a completely different building that was not as big as the one we had just left.“Where are we going?” I asked worriedly.I couldn’t say that immediately, but I was really worried about where Autumn had been taken, and why we weren’t together. If she hadn’t given that response, the separation wouldn’t have happened like that, and deep down, I wasn’t comfortable with the distance, especially as this was a strange place.Romiro didn’t respond to my question. Instead, he kept going. His gait was stiff and strong, and even though he was clearly older than my dad; most of his hairs had gone grey, he still looked like a man who had strength inside of him, and he didn’t stop until we got to another smaller building.I stopped, and he noticed.“Where is this?” I asked worried

AutumnDante left with the man without saying a word, making it obvious to me that he was truly hiding something from me, or there was something that I just wasn’t aware of.“What is going on?” I asked myself worriedly, but of course, there was no one to give me answers.Dante’s expression had been very stiff, and for the very first time, Dante had had to do something that was against his will. I knew him long enough to know that if he had a choice, he wouldn’t have left, and besides, it didn’t seem like we were done with our conversation.I waited for another thirty minutes, but when no one came; Bianca, in particular, I decided to call.Being in this room alone just felt as though I was stuck. More so, I felt worried because of what Dante had said about Romiro being upset about my presence. The call was connected almost immediately.“Hi, is this Bianca?” I asked as soon as it connected.“No, this isn’t she,” a female voice answered me. “Is there something I can do for you?” She aske

DanteA loud, abrupt knock on the door woke me up.“Shit,” I muttered to myself in exasperation. My head was beginning to ache as a result of the shock.“I didn’t even realize that I had slept in too late into the morning,” I said to myself again. But then, I slept late last night. I didn’t get into the room until it was almost past midnight, and thoughts kept running through my head, making it impossible for me to sleep even though I needed the rest from being up and about for days now. I only dozed off in the early hours of this morning, and I was only beginning to get rested in my sleep when the knock came.Impulsively, I took my wristwatch from the bedside table and checked the time, and my eyes widened when I saw that it wasn’t even six in the morning yet.“What the heck?” I asked myself in disbelief. Why was I being woken up at this time of the morning? Before I could think about it for much longer, the knock came again, harsher this time around.“I have heard you, jeez,” I said
