The meltdown Blake and Wendy had expected from me never came.I just stood there quietly, emotionless. For the past three years, everyone thought I was hopelessly in love with Blake—that I was fated to love him, endlessly and unconditionally.Indeed, at first I did love him, guided by what felt like destiny. But now, I couldn't feel a thing. The only reason I stayed by Blake's side was for the pack that raised me.My parents had trained me in hunting since I was little. People who saw me in action often called me a natural-born hunter. My parents wanted me to not only protect myself, but also the people I cared about. So when I found out I was Blake's fated mate, I was over the moon. I poured everything I had into him, including my love, my energy, and my time.I'd fight on the frontlines for him, and I'd sit down and study the pack's dull politics and operations, even though I hated it. There were so many times I wanted to quit. But then, I would think about how my decision cou

When I saw Blake collapse to the ground in pain as our bond broke, I let out a cold laugh. This kind of pain was nothing compared to the damage he'd done to my heart.I figured the bond breaking would finally remind Blake about our agreement. But the next second, he grabbed me and said in a voice tight with anger as he tried to keep it together, "Clara, do you really have to humiliate me like this?"When did you get so nasty? You just had to make a scene, huh? What disgusting trick did you pull to break our bond?"Before I could respond, he had already called over some pack members. They looked ready to drag me out of the hunting grounds.I raised my voice toward the league president. "Sir! I'm a registered participant. May I enter?"Everyone turned to look at me, and I slipped free from the pack members surrounding me.Just as I was about to step into the field, Blake suddenly appeared in front of me and blocked me. "You're not going in! I already had Wendy inform the president

Just as Wendy yanked the flower out of the ground, a violent shockwave roared from deep inside the hunting grounds. When the dust finally settled, an enormous beast stood towering in front of everyone.Wendy was so terrified she collapsed on the ground, trembling and stammering, "B-b-beast…"Blake's eyes went wide with rage as he stared down the beast. While Blake wrestled with the beast, I waited for an opening before I rushed in and dragged the shaking Wendy to safety. Once I got her out of the hunting grounds, I turned right back around and sprinted into the danger zone.By the time I reached Blake again, he was already covered in cuts, and blood trickled from his wounds.A moment later, the beast raised its massive paw and slammed him to the ground, knocking him out cold.I called Carl, and together we snuck in to get Blake out.As I distracted the beast, Carl grabbed Blake and disappeared in a flash. With no one left that I needed to worry about, I went all in. I wasn't as

This whole mess finally ended when Carl announced my victory. After the celebration banquet, I went home only to find Blake had already gotten there before me.Under the moonlight, his eyes locked onto me, making me feel uneasy. After a while, he finally said, "I'm sorry, Clara. I shouldn't have treated you that way…"I shrugged. "It's fine. I'm used to it."He walked toward me and continued, "I had no idea you had that kind of hunting talent. You really blew me away. I've already cut things off with Wendy. Let's move on forward together."If he had said that earlier, while I was still in love with him, maybe I would've forgiven everything and chosen to stay. But now, there was no way I could ever be with him again."Blake, our agreement's time is up."When I saw his confused expression, I smiled. "Did you forget the three-year deal? Once the time is up, we'll go our separate ways."I watched his expression shift from confusion to shock, then regret."So that day, it wasn't yo
