Aria’s POVWe’re all packed into Nia’s birthing suite, the room warm and buzzing with laughter, nerves, and that electric kind of anticipation that only comes when a life is about to enter the world. Nia is laid back against the bed, breathing through another contraction like a champ, cracking jokes in between like she always does.The nurse comes in again to check her, and as she finishes up, I lean forward with a grin.“Hey, girl, I gotta ask you something.”Nia looks at me sideways. “What’s up?”“How come I haven’t seen your doctor yet?”She laughs immediately, shaking her head. “Okay, since this is, or will be, your first baby, let me give you a little heads-up.”I listen closely as she continues. “When you’re in labor, unless something serious is going on, you barely see your doctor. They check you when you first get here, maybe pop in to see if it’s time for the epidural, check your dilation, and if everything’s good? You probably won’t see them again until it’s time to push.”I
