I didn’t go back to work as soon as we got back to the packhouse. I took the rest of the day to just be with Sutton, basically locking us away in our apartment. It was a much needed moment to recharge and refocus. The next morning, Sutton was back on the grounds working with Tanjie and the crew while I waited for Ned to pay me a visit at the packhouse.I wanted to stick close to Sutton for the next few days. The scent of her oncoming heat was getting stronger. It was still unlikely that other males would be able to sense it, but that could change quickly. We’d taken the proper precautions for when it did hit and as long as I didn’t stray too far from her, we would have plenty of time to get ourselves locked away.I was actually getting excited. Really excited. So was Rhonen. I even found myself wondering if I should arrange special accommodations. It was by no means unusual for the duration of a heat to become destructive. The first heat after a marking is said to be particularly inte

I was able to take out some of my frustrations during our workout. Despite my hormones, Lucas’ news managed to put an effective damper on the mood. Nova certainly didn’t have a problem expressing her disappointment. She hit Lucas with a few low blows along the way. But… unfortunately, we understood why we had to make the decision. Honestly, I really didn’t know much about a she-wolf’s heat before Lucas had said I was approaching it. Yes, I knew it happened but I didn’t exactly have any women around to actually explain what it was to me. That wasn’t the case anymore. I had turned to Tarrah and my other friends to learn more about the process. When Tarrah first started telling me about it, suppressing my heat actually sounded like the better way to go. Apparently, my hormones go so crazy that I will become desperate to mate. To the point that it’s physically pa

I decided to focus my attention on the garden venue until Soloman returned. I was already feeling guilty that I kept being pulled away from the project so much as it was. The least I could do was give it my full commitment when I was able to. Besides, we were getting close to finishing the fountain restoration and I really wanted to be a part of that. So did Lucas. We were installing the new central basins today and Lucas offered to help. I wasn’t about to turn him down. This restoration meant as much to him as it did to me. Plus, this would be one of our biggest tasks so far. The stone basins weighed a ton and had to be installed precisely. Otherwise, we would have leaks and other issues that would cause problems down the line. I was disappointed that we couldn’t salvage the original basins well enough to get the fountain functional again. But we were lucky to find an artisan in a town not far out of Thorncrest who

“Are you sure I should be here?” Sutton asked nervously. “I don’t know if I should be here. He’s probably not going to want to see me. I should go.”I grabbed her before she headed for the door. Taking her by the shoulders and planting her on the couch. We were in the apartment my family stays in when they visit. Aunt Lara and Jack were supposed to be here any minute. Aunt Lara said Jack is talking a little now but still won’t talk about his mother or anything to do with that night. At least, he wasn’t talking about it with her.Still, I wasn’t planning on ambushing the boy with questions the moment he got back. That’s why we were waiting for them in their apartment. I figured it would be more comfortable and less pressure to greet them here rather than out front or having them come to our suite.Sutton was worried that her presence would upset him. That somehow she was more of a reminder of that night than the rest of us. I obviously disagreed.“He’ll be glad you’re here,” I assured

“Luna Camilla is the mate of Alpha Lemont of the Crescent River Pack,” I recited. “They have two children, Grant and Isabel. His Beta is Beta Samuel. They’re the fourth wealthiest pack and our leading source of lumber and marble in the country.” I looked at Sera expectantly. “How was that?”“So close,” she replied. “You got everything except they have three children. You forgot their youngest, Harris.”I grunted in frustration. “I’m never going to get this in time.”“Of course you are,” Motty said. “You’re doing great.”“Give me another one,” I told them.Motty held up another photo. It was an older gentleman with graying hair and a serious scowl. I wracked my brain for a name. I knew he wasn’t an Alpha. He wasn’t a royal. He had to be a member of the Royal Council.“Councilmen Hendrick?” I guessed.Motty pursed her lips, looking at the back of the card. “Councilmen Hawthorn.”I fell back into the couch cushions with a sigh. This had been harder than I expected. I guess I hadn’t reali
