Chapter 51: Sutton

We continued on our way and drove through the city. It had a broad layout with grassy spaces between the buildings. There was a wooded park in the middle of the city. I was looking at the skyscrapers over the top of the trees when Lucas turned into a driveway. I sat up straighter as I set eyes on a massive stone estate building.“This is your packhouse?” I asked in astonishment.Lucas chuckled. “Yeah, it’s a bit more old school than the modern Dawn Stalker complex,” he said. “But we like it.”“It’s gorgeous,” I said.“Then I look forward to showing you around,” he said. “I set up a restoration project to fix it up. The exterior, in particular, had been neglected for some time, and parts of the interior still needed some retrofitting when I moved in. But Alpha Morgan didn’t have much of an open-door policy. So most of the rooms were unused for years.” He pulled to a stop before a roundabout in front of the building. “You have a choice — I parade you through the front door for everyone

Chapter 52: Sutton

Lucas straightened and my feet went back to the floor. He kissed my forehead and I saw his grin from the corner of my eye. He wrapped an arm around my shoulder and forced me to face our intruder as I tugged at my clothes to right them.“I should have called ahead,” he said. “Elise, this is Sutton. Sutton, this is Elise. She’s the head housekeeper here at the packhouse.”“Oh, it’s nice to meet you, Elise,” I managed to stumble out.She gave me a smile. It was a little stiff but seemed genuine enough. I’m sure walking in on us was just as shocking for her.“Sutton is my mate,” Lucas informed her to my surprise. “She’s moving in today. Please include her in any changes that may need to be made to your routine.”“Of course, sir,” Elise replied.“And I expect you to continue to maintain the same level of professionalism I’ve come to expect,” he said somewhat cryptically.“Absolutely, Alpha,” she replied firmly. “Is there anything I can help you both with at the moment?”“Not at this moment

Chapter 53: Lucas

Sutton grabbed my shirt and pulled me in, her beautiful mouth taking mine eagerly. Rhonen rumbled his approval in my head as I gave in to her demands. I was still debating whether to tell her that we had sensed her wolf before Elise had interrupted us. I even caught a glimpse of her in Sutton’s eyes when the intrusion left her frustrated. I shouldn’t have been amused or excited by the quiet outburst, but I was. So was Rhonen. I managed to pull away from her before things got heated again. As much as I would like to lock ourselves up here for the rest of the day, now wasn’t the time.“We should get you set up,” I said.I led her to a cabinet built into the wall around the corner from the elevator. I opened it to reveal a computerized control panel. It seemed more high-tech than it really was. While it did connect to the main security system for the entire estate, it was primarily for the apartment. I typed in a password and pulled up the application to add her identification. I lifte

Chapter 54: Sutton

Tarrah showed up at our apartment early the next morning after leaving late the night before. Lucas had been called away not long after we arrived to deal with pack business. He had warned me that would likely happen and he would finish as soon as possible. But I guess our time away had gotten him farther behind with things than he had admitted because he was right back to it first thing in the morning. He didn’t seem too excited about it either.Tarrah, on the other hand, seemed very excited to have me to herself for the day. I didn’t want to tell Lucas, but I was rather happy about it as well. It would be easier to move around and get to know the place with Tarrah than with Lucas. There would be less scrutiny. That assumption had turned out to be correct for the most part. I didn’t get the stares I had walking through the packhouse the day before. There was still plenty of curiosity as I was meeting people though. Once Tarrah told them I just moved, everyone quickly followed up with

Chapter 55: Sutton

“Oh, I see,” I replied, my mouth going dry.“That’s ancient history,” Tarrah said stiffly. “Right, Sera?”“Yes, of course,” Seraphina replied. “How else would I have the nerve to show up?”“Exactly. So, I think it’s time to change the subject,” Anya interjected. “I think you ladies need a drink and we should start getting to know all about our knew friend.”“Agreed,” Tarrah said, putting on a happy face.I was whisked away to the bar where conversations commenced. It was a lively time. I didn’t speak much, I admit. But I was okay with that. There wasn’t much about my life I could actually talk about anyway. So, I settled for answering basic questions like interests and hobbies and such. Tarrah was a lifesaver at changing the topic when it was necessary and I don’t think anyone was too bothered by the secrecy.Well, anyone but Seraphina. She had no problem trying to push the conversation in directions I wasn’t comfortable with. Where I was from? What pack did I belong to because it was

Chapter 56: Lucas

I don’t know what the hell I walked into but it wasn’t good. The energy rolling off of Sutton was palpable as she left. I caught sight of Seraphina at the other end of the room. Rhonen snarled baring his teeth in rage. I wasn’t going to waste my time with her right now. I rushed after Sutton as I linked Tarrah.‘What the fuck did Sera say to Sutton? Why is she even here?’ I demanded. ‘What were you thinking, Tarrah?’‘I’m so sorry, Lucas. I swear I didn’t invite her,’ Tarrah replied urgently. ‘I don’t know what happened…’I cut her off. Blocking her link. Sutton’s aura turned heads as she moved through the bar. I needed to get her out of here. Catching up, I put my hand on the small of her back to guide her. She pushed my arm away.“Don’t touch me,” she hissed under her breath. “Just take me back to the packhouse.”Her eyes flashed brightly as her wolf shined through. This situation was about to get even worse. I really needed to get her out of here. I led her to the parking lot where

Chapter 57: Lucas

I launched myself at her. One hand clamping over her mouth. My arm going around her body, pinning her against me.“I won’t let you, Sutton,” I growled. “Not now.”She fought against me. Kicking out at whatever she could. She was stronger than she had been and I was struggling to contain her. She was struggling to contain herself. Rhonen whimpered in concern and fear. My hand moved to grip her jaw. My forehead rested on hers.“Sutton, stop,” I urged. “Stop and listen to me. I won’t let you throw us away without listening.”She slowly stopped fighting. Her body relaxed slightly. She looked up at me and I thought she was settling. Then her eyes flashed again and her mouth was on mine. Her arms went around my neck and her legs around my waist as she jumped me. Her tongue demanded mine as she pressed her body firmly against me.A different emotion was in control now.I should have pulled away immediately, but the scent of her instant arousal was too overwhelming. I’d been away from her all

Chapter 58: Sutton

I slept late the next morning. I woke up to a string of apologetic messages from Tarrah. I hated that the evening ended up being kind of a disaster. I was embarrassed by the way I acted. I sent her a reply but didn’t feel like meeting up with her like she asked. I needed some time to myself. Lucas had been called into another early morning meeting, so I had the opportunity.I changed into some sweats and turned on the coffee maker. As I waited for it to brew, I closed my eyes. I cleared my mind, thinking of nothing. I was trying to reach my wolf. This was one of the things Lucas suggested to help me.I was still on edge over the revelation about Lucas’ past relationships. I wasn’t naïve enough to think he hadn’t been with anyone, but after the Daisy situation, that wasn’t the best way to find out about it. Despite Lucas’ reassurances of her character, I still didn’t know if I was ready to let go of my animosity just yet. What I did know was that I wanted to see her face when she found

Chapter 59: Lucas

It was four in the afternoon when I finally refused to take any more meetings, or speak to any more advisors, or read any more emails. I was exhausted. I wanted to be with Sutton. She was the only pressing thing I had on my agenda. So, I closed up my office and headed toward my apartment.Rhonen started to get antsy the closer we got to home. He was ready to spend time with our mate as well. It had been a rough couple of days being back. He needed her as much as I did. Maybe more, considering he was bouncing like a puppy on the elevator ride up. The doors opened and I was greeted by music playing throughout the apartment. I could swear I heard Sutton singing. It was a beautiful sound and a big change from the mood she had been in last night. Stepping out of the elevator, she quickly caught sight of me from the kitchen. She rushed toward me, the biggest, most brilliant smile on her face. She immediately leapt into my arms, giving me one of the most intoxicating kisses. I chuckled as I

Chapter 60: Lucas

Sutton’s lips found mine, immediately deepening the kiss as her tongue reached for me. My fingers buried in her hair. My other hand cupped her ass, pulling her impossibly close. It still didn’t feel close enough. Sutton seemed to agree, as she tugged at my suit jacket. I pulled it off while she made quick work of the buttons on my shirt. Within seconds, we were skin-to-skin. Half our clothes lost on the floor.I flipped her onto her back with a growl. Moving along her jaw and down to her neck. She moaned beneath me, making my hard cock twitch with anticipation as her scent overwhelmed me.“I need to lock the elevator,” I rumbled, tired of the endless interruptions. Her fingers slipped into my hair. “I already did.”Another growl reverberated in my chest. I tore the rest of her clothes off, my mouth and hands exploring every inch. My fingers found the apex of her thighs. Her groan intensified as my tongue swirled around her nipple. Pushing inside her, my movements were fervent. Driven
