“What the hell does it matter who I’m seeing if I’ll be mated off soon anyway?!”As usual, Walker was perplexed by his father’s attitude and logic.“Reputation,” Archibald said, not glancing up from his paperwork, “If I don’t like her, you won’t either.”Walker seethed.“I’d rather be cut off entirely than told I couldn’t see her again."Archibald paused, raising an eyebrow as he looked at Walker in amusement.“Is that so? Wasn’t it you who said one shouldn’t be getting involved right before the ball? You’re infatuated with her, why I don’t have a fucking clue, but if this is what you’ve decided, pack your shit and go to the cabin.”“What?”“You heard me. If you want to gallivant around my town like a love struck imbecile with none other than the garbage leftovers, be my guest, but not while living underneath my roof. And you’re fired from Wells Construction until further notice. The minute you’re mated, you may come back. ”“Are you going to freeze my account?” Walker asked.Archibal

Holden was babbling on about something that wasn’t interesting to Walker, but he promised Roxie he’d be social and nice. Why she was so forgiving was a mystery to him.He remembered pushing her into the school’s pool the first day she was there—his eyes set on her the moment her parents dropped her off. They were so nice, so loving, such a happy family—something that he’d lost when he was 7.“Hi, I’m Roxie,” she smiled and waved to him as he stood at his locker with Holden and Eric, all of them 16 and stupid. She stuck her hand out for him to shake and he laughed—fucking laughed at her, which in turn forced the others to follow suit.“Mouse, I don’t give a fuck what your name is,” Walker said, eyeing her up and down. She wasn’t dressed like the other girls in school--sexy and revealing. No, she was in her overalls and Converse shoes, her hair up in a pony tail and, at that time, she wore glasses—until she kept getting tossed into the pool and lockers, or thrown into the wall. So many

Walker drove for quite some time before realizing how tired he was.His adrenaline rush had completely diminished and he kept checking on Roxie to make sure she was still doing well. Her breath was even and she kept fairly still save for some movements of her head or a lull in her moans.Walker had no clue what he was doing. He couldn’t put the rogues in harm’s way so he decided to bypass Niles and his territory because Roxie had the ability to hide the scent of not only herself, but anyone and that would make anyone from his coven think he’d gone straight to his friends. He drove a little more before hitting a motel miles outside of Gideon.Parking the Jeep at the far end of the lot, Walker made sure not to make a scene at the front desk. He hoped his bind on Myrtle would last long enough for Roxie to rouse and fade their scents.Getting Roxie inside of the room and underneath the covers wasn’t hard, but knowing how angry she’d be with him when he woke up took a toll on his heart. He

“Walker?”Roxie roused in the bed as Walker stood guard near the window.“Stay quiet, mouse.” Walker whispered.Roxie appeared next to him almost immediately.“Sweetie, please stop scaring the shit out of me with that move,” Walker gulped as he put his arm around her, “Ragers.”“Ragers are all over the place, Walker,” Roxie said, “They’re allowed to be here.”“I don’t like them,” Walker said, “You are too forgiving.”“I’ve never truly believed my father’s death was all on them.”“You need to tell me this shit beforehand.”“You never asked,” Roxie shrugged, “I told my mom, but every time she’d try to go to the coven, they’d shut her down.”“Shut her down?”“Well, they were sympathetic, but less than helpful. I’ve had my fill of casseroles over help the last three years.”“Are all of the Weepers like that?”“Depends on the region—or city. I adored our coven in Gideon.”“That might be an idea.”“Idea?”“Would they rat you out?”“I told you I only trust you, Walker, and I meant it.”“OK,

“Thank you for bringing us here, Walker,” Roxie said as she took Walker’s hand, “You helped me.”Walker smiled, “You forced me to, mouse.”Roxie smiled, crookedly –the life coming back in her beautiful eyes.“So, when can we move in to our new home?”Walker curled his lips in disgust.“We’ll be going shortly. ”Jenny and Evans helped Walker and Roxie out of the infirmary and down to a little yellow cottage where the Jeep was parked in front.Walker had carried Roxie to the residence. He needed to do this for her– needed to hold her close to him.“I can walk,” Roxie whispered.“I’d rather carry you.”“Still worried I might run away?”“Yes… ”Roxie made her way around the cottage, smiling when she glimpsed a room with all of her paint supplies set up and the started picture of Maddy on a new easel.“Thank you,” Roxie said, taking Walker’s hand, “Kinda weird for you to be so nice to me.”“Kinda weird for us to have sex, but I wanna do it for the rest of my life. ”Roxie eyed him carefull
