Semua Bab Ex-husband, You Broke The Wrong Woman : Bab 241 - Bab 250

[Elena] My nerves were all over the place and I had no idea why. I took a deep breath as my hand tightened on my lap just as my driver rolled to a stop at the front of the restaurant where I'd be meeting Owen. It felt different today, stepping out without the extra security I’d gotten used to—security I’d needed because I was trying to stay safe from that thing who always seemed set on harming me. "Ma'am are we at the right place?" The driver said, pulling me out of my thoughts. "We are. Just give me a second." "Of course ma'am." He chuckled like I'd said the most ridiculous thing. "Please don't say it like I'm asking you to leave the car already," He mumbled. I shook my head immediately, waving my hand at him. "Of course not. I understand, I'm just trying to..." "You don't have to explain ma'am. Please take your time," He mumbled and that pulled a smile from my lips. I swallowed, my eyes darting across the restaurant. I had no idea why I was this nervous. I bit do

[Elena]"A bit too much I know." He chuckled, staring back at me. "Not easy knowing I'm alone but...I don't think I feel alone anymore. Now that I have you in my life."I swallowed hard.My lips pressed tight at the way he said that. Now that he has me in his life. The word made something tighten in my chest."So yeah, I'm very much okay. Don't worry about that." Owen said, and I nodded, flashing him a smile."So what do you like to do on your free days...I mean for fun and stuff?" Owen asked. My lips pressed tight. "Nothing much...just working, taking a walk... going on drives and yeah...I guess I'm a bit boring.""Why would you say that?" Owen's lips stretched into a smile, and I couldn't help but smile as well.Owen talked about his days—painting late into the night in his studio, teaching kids basketball on weekends, the way art and sports somehow balanced him out. I listened more than I spoke, surprised by how easy it felt."What?" Owen threw his head back, laughter bubbling out

[Asher]But who exactly is the damn bastard?Could he be her...I shook my head immediately, cutting the thought off before it could finish forming. That’s not possible. It can’t be."Asher." Isadora’s voice cut in again. "You’re not saying anything."My lips pressed together."Sorry… what did you say?" I asked. She shot me a look, brows creasing in mild irritation."I asked if you like it here," she repeated. 'I told you they make the best coffee. Don’t you think so?"My gaze dropped to the cup in my hand, the dark liquid staring back at me.How was I supposed to tell her I hadn’t tasted a single damn thing when I drank that? It felt like my taste buds suddenly ceased to function. And it had nothing to do with the coffee but has everything to do with the fact that my mind was spiraling out of control?"I think it’s cool," I lied.Isadora smiled, clearly pleased. She opened her mouth to add something, then thought better of it and cleared her throat instead.I swallowed hard, my eyes

[Elena]"Elena…are you…" Owen paused, his eyes still not leaving mine. "Are… are you married?" Owen asked, the surprise in his voice landing heavy between us.My eyes almost widened before I caught myself, shock rippling through me in an instant. What?"No," I said immediately, my voice louder than necessary. Firm. Deliberate. "I’m not married."The words weren’t just for Owen. They were for him.For the man who stood a few feet away, looking like he had every right in the world to drag my life into the open and interrogate me.Has Asher completely lost his mind?Owen nodded slowly, but the crease between his brows didn’t smooth out. He looked like he wanted to say something—like a hundred questions were pressing against his tongue—but he swallowed it back and shut his mouth. My lips curled slightly as my gaze slid past Owen and landed on Asher. He wasn’t looking at me.He was staring at Owen. The look on his face was dark—raw, violent even. His jaw was clenched so tight that I could

[Asher]It felt like something was tearing out my heart and ripping it clean in two, like invisible hands had reached into my chest and decided to pull everything apart without mercy. My chest ached constantly, a deep, ugly pain that refused to fade. My hand curled into a tight fist at my side, nails biting into my palm as the stupid thing I had said just a few hours ago replayed in my head, again and again—with relentless force. What the hell was wrong with me?What fucking got over me?I gulped down nothing, my throat dry, my chest growing tighter with every freaking second that passed. Breathing felt like work. Like effort. Like something I had to consciously force myself to do.The loud shrill of my ringtone suddenly cut through the room, sharp and intrusive, and my eyes snapped toward the sound like some miracle might finally decide to happen. Like maybe—just maybe—the caller would be Elena. But of course, miracles didn’t coexist when it came to me.I swallowed hard as I stared a
