Anora's POV I got into my car and drove off. Through the side mirror, I could still see him. He was still standing there, staring at my receding car like he was lost. That alone gave me a small, bitter satisfaction. Luckily, Sara didn’t question me until after dinner. “Mommy, will Daddy come back?” she asked softly, her little fingers playing with mine. I exhaled, forcing a smile. “Yes, he will.” The words slipped out, not because I believed them, but because I wanted her to stay happy. “Okay, Mommy.” She hugged me, smiling as if that answer was enough. I kissed the top of her head, silently praying she wouldn’t bring up the subject again until I figured out what to say when she did. The next day, Vanessa wasn’t feeling too well, so she had to skip work. I asked her to pick Sara up from school and stay with her until I got back, and she gladly agreed.
