LUCAFear. Tension. Avoidance. Evasion. That’s what I’d grown used to seeing in everyone’s eyes around me, and today was no different. The only pair of eyes that dared to meet my eyes, head-on, with pure hatred and challenge was Mila's. She stood next to her fiancé at their party, burning my skin with her heated gaze.Did her challenge bother me? Hell no. I smirked at the thought. On the contrary, I found it oddly satisfying. A certain thrill floods my veins whenever I play with people’s emotions, to discover their weaknesses and use them against them. It wasn’t hard for me to find their fears and their weak spots, and once I did, only God could save them.Their fear feeds me. I know that I am the nightmare of most of them. But still, this reminds me of everything I’ve endured to become who I am now. Il Cattivo. But that side of me was only ever for those who might be a threat—by any means—to the stability of La Cosa Nostra. That ruthless side of me was never toward my own family. N

I stumbled a few steps back after seeing Luca break a man’s neck. He looked at me with a deadly stare. Was I a witness to something I shouldn't have seen? Will I be eliminated?I had lived in Mafia society since my early age, and I knew well that there were some things we shouldn’t see or hear. For the stability and benefits of La Cosa Nostra, anyone could be disposed of. Didn't they do that to me four years ago? They excluded me from the entire country the moment they felt I was a threat to their reputation. And now, after all these years, they brought me back for their own benefit.Luca’s merciless gaze as he dug his fingers into the man’s neck and broke it effortlessly, kept replayind in the back of my mind.I didn't know who shot me or why, but waking up and find myself here in the basement filled my head with negative thoughts. I stared at my surroundings, at the torture cells. I had even lost my sense of directions to find my way back to the room I was in.At first, when I open

Luca I was lying under my Porsche 911 Turbo, preparing for the next street race, when someone tapped my shoulder. As I pushed my body out from under the car using the creeper, a strong punch slammed into my jaw, taking me completely by surprise.I rolled onto my back and sprang to my feet, pulling out my gun and aiming it at whoever dared to hit me.“What the fck was that, Marco?” I asked sharply, sliding my gun back into the waistband of my trousers. He rushed toward me, grabbed my collar, and shoved me back to the ground. I didn't resist though, just smiled mischievously. Even though I felt my stitches tightening a little. I already knew what was wrong with him. When the guards heard the commotion, they rushed into the garage with their guns drawn, but froze when they saw the scene.“Boss? Capo?” one of them muttered, looking from my face to my brother’s in confusion.I gestured for them to leave with a wave of my hand.“Why did you trigger the fire alert system, Marco?” I asked. “

“Your wound is fine, you did great,” the doctor said as I lay on the examination bed.I sighed in relief. I hated blood and wounds—ironic, wasn't it, for one who lived in the Mafia? I sneered to myself.“Is the race tonight?” the doctor asked Ricardo once I stepped off bed.Ricardo nodded and said, “Yep, you have to be there on time.”The doctor nodded, and we left. The ride to the nightclub was quiet. I kept staring out the window, watching the cars and the normal life I would never have in New York. I had to find a way to escape. Or just confront anyone who tries to control and manipulate you, Mila, I thought.“What are you thinking of, Mila?” Ricardo asked.I didn't look his way and muttered, “A way to escape this life.”There was a long pause. Then he revved the engine loudly before we pulled up in front of the nightclub’s main entrance, surrounded by four black cars belonging to the guards. Before I could reach for the car door handle, Ricardo caught my chin and gently squeezed

I bit down my lips, “Maybe I’m not, but I'm doing my best. I'm the only family he has.”His eyes darkened, and he clenched his jaw. “A perfect mom lives with her boyfriend. Interesting,” he growled, his hands tightening on the steering wheel.Thinking, I opened my mouth in an “O” shape. I remembered the conversation between Lorenzo and me. “Were you spying on me and Lorenzo?” I asked in disbelief, narrowing my eyes at him with a tone of accusation. He didn't reply. I rolled my eyes and muttered, “You’re insane!”I didn't know why he was acting this way. Didn't he force me into this engagement? Why was he now acting like I was the one who wanted this?I stared at his hand on the gear shifter, hesitated for a moment, then decided to take the step. I placed my hand on his. He snapped his eyes toward me, then shifted his gaze to my hand. I smiled awkwardly and said, “I miss us. I miss the brother-sister relationship we had. Why…”He pulled his hand away, sneered, and said dryly, “We can'
