Kyle walked toward Arden, who sat alone on the bench in the school’s waiting garden. The garden was usually filled with chatter of students laughing, couples sneaking moments before lectures. But now, with classes over, only a few people lingered. Arden had been waiting there, sitting stiffly, his hands clasped tight on his knees. His face looked pale, almost drained, but when he caught sight of Kyle, he quickly forced a smile. “Kyle,” Arden greeted, shifting to make space on the bench. Kyle dropped down beside him with his usual energy, a grin stretching across his face. “I have good news for you,” he said, voice filled with excitement.
