After eating dinner alone, Arden sat quietly on the couch, his phone resting face down beside him. He leaned back, crossing his arms as his eyes shifted toward the hallway. It was late and Ryder still wasn’t back. Normally, Ryder would be home by now. They might not always talk much, but at least the house didn’t feel this empty when he was around. Arden sighed softly. “Where are you, Ryder…” he murmured under his breath. He tried distracting himself, scrolling through random things on his phone, but after a while, his eyes began to blur with fatigue. Still, he didn’t want to go to bed. Something about the emptiness of his own room tonight felt heavier than usual. Eventually, he stood, stretched his arms, and decided to head upstairs. Maybe if he lay down for a bit, he could get some rest before Ryder came back. But the moment he stepped into his room, he knew sleep wasn’t going to come. He tossed and turned, flipping his pillow, pulling the blanket up and then pushing it away.
