[ARIETTA’S POV]I learned from Pierce that his cousin, Damiano, was sent to Wyoming before. It’s a distant place, a punishment for a mistake his cousin made once when they went to a bar. That’s why I rarely saw them together. And now, he’s not here either because he went to Wyoming with Nicolo. It’s sad, but there’s nothing I can do about it.There have been many times when Pierce had family events and wanted me to come with him, but I didn’t join. Even if he told me his dad was fine with it, I preferred to avoid the trouble. I didn’t want any more tension between father and son.I’m happy now that he lets us be, unlike before.I got off the bus and went home to Massachusetts because tomorrow I had to pick something up from my old school.Blaire texted me saying she couldn’t meet up because they were leaving tomorrow. I didn’t insist. It’s a shame, I thought we were going to meet up.Our quiet house greeted me. Before, I was excited to open the door knowing Aunt Tessa would greet me,

[ARIETTA’S POV]I was taken to the hospital by Gerome, and the doctors immediately attended to me. I had injuries on my foot and hand because of what happened. I couldn’t move them properly. I also felt sad whenever I saw the bandages on both parts of my body. The doctor said there were no serious injuries, despite the fact that my back and head were hit when I fell. The door opened, and Pierce walked in. The first thing I noticed was the mixture of anger and concern on his face. When he saw me, his eyes immediately became teary. The anger faded, and only concern remained on his face."What did the doctor say? Are you alright?" Pierce asked as his eyes carefully observed me.I told him that aside from the injuries on my wrist and ankle, nothing else serious happened to me."Sir, we've already filed a case against Eugene Holden for physical injury," Gerome said. However, Pierce didn’t seem satisfied with what would happen to Eugene. The moment he heard that name, his expression darkene

[ARIETTA’S POV]"When I was a kid, I was kidnapped. It was supposed to be Marcello who was taken, but they made a mistake and took me instead. I managed to escape, but the aftermath wasn’t good." Aunt took a deep breath, seeming to struggle with the story. "It was the West family who kidnapped me. They became particularly interested in me when they found out I came from a wealthy family. That’s when Margot entered the picture, Arietta. She befriended me to gain my trust, making it easier for them to kidnap me again and get what they wanted from my family."I froze at what I heard. My eyes widened in shock. I never imagined that this was what had happened to them."But despite everything, I know that Margot treated me as her friend. If she hadn’t, the West family would have harmed me long ago. It was Margot who protected me from her father—from her family. She delayed their plans. So for a few years, my life remained relatively peaceful, until one day it was ruined again. The day Margo

[ARIETTA’S POV]I kept sighing, still thinking about what Papa said. My mind was more confused than ever, and I couldn’t decide who was telling the truth.I was heading to the parking lot where Gerome was waiting for me. I was also planning to head back to New York soon since I had nothing to do here in Massachusetts. If I went home to our house, no one would be waiting for me there either.I stopped walking when my cellphone suddenly rang. I picked it up and checked who was calling. It was Blaire.I answered right away, thinking she might need something from me. I was already in Massachusetts, so we could meet if necessary."Blaire, hello?""Arietta!" I was startled by her sudden shout. Just by the tone of her voice, I knew it wasn’t good news."W-What’s wrong? What happened?" I asked, already feeling anxious."Eugene..." she paused for a moment. "Have you heard what happened to him?"I suddenly thought of Eugene’s situation. Based on the last news I heard, he was still in jail becau

[ARIETTA’S POV]Aunt held my hand and gently stroked it. I looked at her, still lost in my thoughts because of everything that had happened."Ari, what’s really going on?" Aunt asked, probably worried about the situation."Mr. Marcello doesn’t want me with Pierce, Aunt. He’s making my life difficult so I’ll stay away from him." I lowered my head. I didn’t want to believe it was Mr. Marcello behind all of this because he had promised. Not to me, but he had made a promise to Aunt Giovanna and Pierce. So... why is this happening now?My mind was a mess. I couldn’t think straight because of what happened to Aunt. What if she had been abducted? What would happen to her?I had been so understanding of the entire situation. I always used my head more than my emotions. But now, with Aunt in this state—the person I considered a mother—I didn’t know what to think or what to do.I held her hand for a long time, hoping that in the end, everything would be over, but here we are again. And this tim
