Chapter Twenty-Four Liana’s POV The chamber was heavy with silence. Candle flames wavered against silk-draped walls, their glow soft and golden, yet it felt as though shadows crowded closer around me. Kael’s presence filled the air, a weight pressing against my skin before he even spoke. He stood at the window, broad-shouldered, cloaked in black and gold, his hands clasped behind him as if he owned not only this chamber but the air I breathed. “You follow like a pet,” he said without turning. The words sliced through me, sharp and humiliating, and yet they rooted me to the floor instead of sending me fleeing. “I did not mean—” My voice shook, breaking before I could form the lie. Kael turned, slow and deliberate, his gaze sweeping over me. His smile was cruel, his eyes alive with mocking fire. “You did not mean to,” he repeated, stepping closer. “Or you did not want to.” My lips parted. I had no answer.
