Champ POV“Good day, Dad,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady as I stepped into the dining room.Kyle’s dad looked up from his phone, gave me a quick nod and a smile, “Champ. Good to see you, son, sit down.”I exhaled through my nose and pulled out the chair next to Kyle. Camille ran straight to Kyle’s dad, with wide arms.“Hi, Grandpa!” she yelled, jumping up to hug his neck the second he turned.He laughed, deeply and lifted her onto his lap like it was nothing. “Hey there, little miss. You’re getting big, wow. What’s this princess dress for? Special occasion?”“Lunch with Kyle!” she announced, proud as hell.Kyle’s dad ruffled her hair. “Good reason.” He glanced at me over her head. “You did good bringing her, she is so bright, it makes the table less… tense.”I managed a grin. “Figured she’d help my case.”He just chuckled and didn’t argue.
