LORD REVANDREL“Repeat what you just said to me,” I said calmly, sliding my arms into the outstretched sleeves of a black robe woven with gold-plated threads held out for me.The two sentries looked visibly uncomfortable behind their commander, Jaffa. The Head of Security cleared his throat. “She, um... left the premises, my lord. The female you gave specific orders about. She is... gone.”I nodded slowly as a servant fastened the gold buttons at my cuffs. “Jaffa.”“Y-yes, Your Lordship.”“I have lived a very rough existence and encountered many unskilled people along the way, but even I am amazed by your level of incompetence.”The security head had the grace to look ashamed. “Forgive me, my lord. A search party is already out combing the area as we speak—”“Call them back.”He hesitated, clearly confused. “Yes, my lord, as you command.”“Leave.”The chamber was silent after they exited. Two of my personal sentinels watched me closely. Questions in their eyes.“What?” I asked. They e

LADY BAEVERAStanding at the entrance of the tavern, I surveyed the inside.Rowdy male laughter and clinking glasses. The place reeked of sweat, pipe smoke, and roasted meat.I glanced back at the road behind me, now swallowed by dusk. I should be out there, not in here. But I was hungry and not just for food.My leg throbbed with every step. I needed to bloodfeed if I wanted to fast-track the healing process.Pulling my hood lower over my face, I stepped inside and quietly ordered the cheapest meal on the menu. A watery pottage and a chunk of bread. I was running out of coin.Twelve gold coins from the tips sounded like a lot, but five days on the run, making costly decisions to stay hidden, hopping villages and inns, it was bleeding me dry. Thankfully, tonight’s lodging was already paid for.The food tasted like sawdust, but I forced it down anyway.Once finished, I made my way to the tavern’s shadowed corners, where drunks groped willing girls, others smoked strange herbs, and some

He flinched. Then, dropped me like I had burned him, taking a step back.I fell to the ground like a ragdoll, clutching my throat, and gasping for breath. Oh gods, what have I done? I was evil.“Stop talking,” he growled. The dam finally broke and I began to cry now. Ugly, wheezing sobs that shook my entire body as my heart splintered from the venom I sprewed from my own mouth.I am lying, I wanted to scream. I do not believe it either. I KNOW what they did to you, and I am so sorry! You are not weak, you are not broken, and I am sorry for all I did! For not stopping them, for handing you over to them like a sacrificial lamb, I am sorry you had to meet a female like me in your lifetime! I wanted to beg and bleed the truth that he deserved better. That my father had earned what came to him for what he did and I deserved the ruin I had become. But I could not say any of it, instead, I reached for the most terrible lie.The one I know would finally shatter the last of his control and br

I watched her undress fully, until she stood bare before me. The claw marks on her skin stretched red and raw. Good.“So many lessons to teach you about shame, pain, humiliation, and helplessness. But tonight, I will be giving you a lesson in humiliation,” I informed her calmly. She wanted to cover herself, but could not. She was under my Will, and I did not command her to. Until I release her from compulsion, she will only do as I ask. Anything I ask.And she knows it, and it terrifies her. Plain fear right there in her pleading eyes. There was no trace of her usual defiance and fight.“Now, where is that sharp tongue?” I asked. Tsk, tsk, tsk. I turned to my sentinels. “Roland. Zeus. Do you like what you see?”They both spoke in unison, “Yes, my Lord.” The stark desire in their eyes could not be disguised.“Want to touch?”“Revandrel,” Alaric’s soft voice came from the doorway. I looked at him, and he shook his head. “Don’t…”I snorted. “You have always been a good male, Alaric. I n

As I waited for Jesse, I breathed unrest. Not able to sit still on the mattress any longer, I slid to the floor. Exhaustion seeped into my skin, past my bones, past my blood, and into my very soul. I was losing the fight against the pull wanting to drag me back into the past, and I knew it.This drain was winning, and it knew it, too.For once, Alaric was quiet. All his usual humor, constant commentary, and flippant remarks were nowhere in sight as he sat on the other side of the room, giving me the space I needed, even as his hawk-like eyes tracked my every move.I ignored him entirely, battling the weight of my memories. But I was losing that war, too.Growing up, I had a condition called sluggish growth. It was rare among our kind, but it happened. One in a crowd, they said.It meant I developed slowly in everything: brain, body, age, muscle, and mind.Shifting was the only hope to ever overcome sluggish growth. But that was where the problem lies, because people like me lived fo
