ALARICIt was difficult listening to him. Even harder seeing him like this.I did not know where he had gone, what memory or nightmare had dragged him away, but whatever it was, it had reduced a strong, formidable male like Revandrel to this. The low, guttural growls, the sweat glistening and pouring off his skin, the way he curled into himself at the foot of that massive bed like a wounded animal.I wanted so badly to go to him, grab his hand and drag him back into the present, but I knew better. Revandrel hated being touched when he was like this. Or more accurately, his instincts hated it.He went feral at contact. I made that mistake once and almost lost two hands and a leg for it.The creak of the door opening caught my attention. A female walked in, looking so elegant and composed.“And you’re still as beautiful as ever,” I said, rising with a half-smile as I opened my arms.Lady Jesselyn Fiercevault walked into the embrace, gracious as ever. “And you are not your charming self,

“I understand the desire to make this place soar, Revan. To make Naked Den a legend. But you can still achieve that without keeping her in such close proximity.” She looked at me with gentle imploring. “Look at what it's doing to you. She is toxic for you.”“That need to see this place thrive means more to me right now than any laid-out revenge, Jesse,” I said quietly. “She is more useful to me here than rotting in a forgotten cell.”“Not if it drags you back into darkness. I have not seen you this strung out in years. You look exhausted—unhinged, even. If this continues, you may start having flashbacks. And we both know what comes next.”She waited for me to speak, but I did not. There was nothing to say.So, she continued. “Nightmares. The closet refuge. Rain and thunder enemies in the dark… all of it. Do you really to resurrect all your demons?”It has already started. I stared through the window, into the night beyond. She had put every one of my unspoken fears into words. Was I r

The next day…LADY BAEVERAI sat at the center of my chamber, surrounded by darkness. Not just the room but inside me, too.I felt wounded, as though someone had taken a saw and carved the flesh from my bones, leaving only raw, open wounds exposed to the night air.I watched my own tears fall, like a rainstorm that had slowed to a steady, miserable drizzle, dripping from the roof to the ground. Drop. Drop. Drop. What does it take to shatter a doll that is already broken?Turns out, sending her back to her hell with a different captor will do the trick. So many pieces of me lay scattered inside, like confetti, shredded too finely to ever be puzzled back together again.Yet I was alive.Barely standing, barely breathing, but still alive.Who would have thought I would survive this again? If Helory could see me now… would she be proud or horrified?Seven hundred years knee-deep in trauma, unable to stomach sexual intimacy, unable to even be in a room alone with a male without my nerves w

LADY BAEVERAOne who referred to him as “Coinmaster”, so he might even be a business associate, yet he would tossed him out without hesitation, subtlety, or care. Was I dreaming?Revandrel’s angry eyes found mine again. What did I do now? I lifted my chin and met his gaze. I wonder what was going through that head of his.“Everyone back to work,” he ordered, eyes still on me, and the crowd dispersed quickly. Finally, he looked away, turned, and began walking back toward the tower.“Thank you,” Milly said to me, her eyes wet with gratitude. “I cannot thank you enough.”“It is fine.” I gave her a small, reassuring smile, noticing the bruises forming on her wrist. “Wrap a cold river stone around that to keep it from swelling.”She glanced at my cheek, reaching up to brush my bruise gently. I swallowed the wince.“I could say the same to you. Please, come with me to the healer’s.” She took my hand.“Later.” I gently lowered her hand. “There is something I need to do first.”Then I turned

LORD REVANDRELI had always prided myself on my self-control. But the moment I inhaled the surprisingly intoxicating scent of Baevera Eldareth’s blood, I knew I was standing before a losing battle. So, with restraint strong enough to shock the plague out of a flea-ridden, dying male, I tore myself away from her. Grabbed her by the arm, and all but shoved her out the door. She yelped, startled, her closed eyes flying open as she stumbled and lost her footing.I slammed the door shut behind her with a force that rattled the frame, just as I heard the loud thud of her landing on her butt on the hallway floor.“What the hell, Revandrel?!”Her shout came muffled through the wooden door as I stood there, breath heaving like a runner at the end of a brutal sprint. My fists clenched tight, my fangs fully bared.I fought the hunger. Fought the urge to go after her, drag her back, and sink my teeth into her neck, reasons be damned!“Fuck!” I roared, slamming my fist into the wall. “Fuck! Fuck
