Hermosa POVI limped out through the hallway, holding my weak legs. His husky voice followed me outside. I inhaled the smell of freedom; I was glad to be out of that hospital bed. I scanned my surroundings. Patients on blue gowns like mine were wheeled around with an IV pole. Hospital staffs were running around to get medicines for the sick.Everybody was busy, which was why nobody took notice of me wandering close to the hospital gate in a patient’s clothing.Nobody ever left the hospital because the only ones here were sick. Only I knew what had transpired in my patient room.He was most certainly not my taste. I shook my head repulsively, remembering his strong arms.As I walked down the hallway, I saw visiting family members of the sick loitering about. Sharp cries of pain filled the air as the doctors injected the sick ones.My heart went out to the patients. Knowing the doctors of my pack, they hardly cared; it was only about the money the sick ones could pay them. Recently, the

The subtle footsteps echoed down the stairs. Whoever it was had a hell of a creepy foot. Cammy wouldn’t dare pop in unannounced — she was always cheerful. “Who is there?” My voice was shaky as I slid down the stairs, legs trembling from trekking a long distance without food. I should have stayed back at the hospital. At least it was public and full of attention; nobody would dare harm me there. No sound. No noise. The only thing I could hear was the thumping of my heart. Had the Alpha King found me? “Hello?” I called out, but I was greeted with silence. Was I hallucinating? I scanned the living room, and everything looked exactly the same. The mark on my neck pulsed. I rubbed it, a flaring sensation spreading through my neck, its effect turning my eyes. I almost fell forward when strong hands held me in place. My vision swarmed. Images swirled around me. My eyes couldn’t see properly who had saved me from the fall. The stranger’s breath lingered on my neck. It felt terrifying a

Hermosa’s POVThere was something about the way he looked at the mirror that unsettled me. He wasn’t this calm unless he was plotting. My body nagged at me again. I clenched my insides, seething with rage. He looked quite different from the Rapheal that would have protected me from harm at all cost.I groaned. I was aware that this might be the only way to help my best friend. If the Alpha King could overpower me then, how would I be able to save her? This was the only way I could think of to help. My mate’s phone rang. He brought it out of his breast pocket. I saw a name flashing on the screen. It read *Morgan.* I had seen it. That was the Alpha King’s Beta—if I wasn’t mistaken—or it could be another name.He hid the screen. Too late. I had seen it. It doubled my suspicion about what really happened to me.His jaw dropped. “It can’t be.” His eyes darkened after listening to the call. I looked at him to know what had happened.“I have to go.” He ended the call, standing up to leave wi

RAPHEAL POVA scowl formed on my face and it took every restraint in me to keep cool. I had just bought my mate an expensive gift, and instead of thanking me, she felt repulsed like I was some pig. It made me angry after everything I had done for her safety.“Of course you would be punished.” I turned the doorknob and, without a backward glance, I let my words hit her.Leaving her with Eleanor wasn’t what I wanted, but after seeing her pretty bashed-out hands and legs, I couldn’t leave her alone all by herself, and she needed witchy treatment.I groaned. The cost of everything I was doing was because of her, yet her repelling gaze made my blood boil.I walked through the hallways, maids scurrying to get away from me, while most of them were busy dusting the framed pictures with purple bruises lined on their arms and hidden beneath their work clothes. Others made it a job to stay hidden from me.It wasn’t my fault. No matter how hard I tried to control myself, they just seemed to push

Hermosa POVThe painting was no longer there. It was back on the wall. A shiver ran down my spine. This room was surely haunted if the most powerful witch wasn’t able to see this.My eyes grew wide. I am doomed then. Eleanor watched me carefully, a smirk on her lips. She probably thought that I was scared of her.She hung the dagger close to my neck, teasing the same spot that I was marked. “Don’t worry, it won’t hurt.” The feel of the dagger on my neck was cold and terrifying. Her painted nails, more mortifying now up close. Beads of sweat trickled down my body.“Stop!” I gritted my teeth, the knife still on my neck. “You are going to kill me.”“It’s not going to be a bad thing after all.” She laughed, enjoying my fear.“You think I’m afraid of you?” I threw my head backwards. Loud bouts of laughter followed suit.Eleanor looked confused after noticing the change in my mood. I was no longer scared of dying. When I had almost died—She pressed the dagger close to my throat this time.
