Mary's POV The night air was crisp as Reid pulled his bike to a smooth stop in front of Danny's compound. The hum of the engine faded into silence, and the distant rustling of leaves and the rhythmic sound of my breath became audible. He had just brought me back after going out with him. Mary's POV After some months had passed and the exams were already coming to an end, I made a decision that had been forming in my mind for a while. Living in the villa with Danny had become unbearable for me. Starting from Donna's constant taunts and the disdainful glances from her family that were always visiting, I was fed up, overfed up. Danny's emotional overtures that kept coming occasionally were also putting my emotions in turmoil. They were all too much for me. I needed peace and the best way to get that was to leave Danny's villa. Relocating to the college hostel was going to be the best option for now. Mary's POV My fingers hovered over the phone in hesitation. Reid watched me carefully. “Do you want to answer?” I swallowed hard as I was torn between the familiar ache in my chest and the silent question in Reid’s eyes. I hesitated for a long moment before I finally pressed the answer button. “Hello?” My voice was cautious and guarded. There was a pause before Danny’s voice came through. It was slurred and heavy with alcohol. “You know I can't come over into your hostel. Come down here, I need to talk to you.” My grip on the phone tightened. “Why are you calling me at this hour?” I asked with a cold voice. “What do you want to say to me?” Danny let out a bitter laugh. “Just come out here. Please!” I closed my eyes and exhaled sharply. I knew I shouldn’t go. I knew this was not right. But a part of me still wanted to hear him out. Maybe it would give me the closure that I had always wanted. I glanced at Reid who was silently watching me the entire time. He didn’t stop me.
