Author's POV The golden morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow over the room. A gentle touch ghosted across Danny's chest, it was featherlight and slow but it felt wrong. His brows furrowed as his mind stirred from the fog of sleep. Something was off. Was it the scent in the air? Or the unfamiliar warmth beside him? Or the lingering haze in his head? Mary's POV When I rushed out of the hotel, my vision had become blurred with tears. I didn't know where I was going, I just knew that I wanted to escape. The sky darkened as if it was mourning with me. Not long after, rain began to fall. It started with soft drops, then it became harder and it soaked through my clothes. I felt chilled to the bone but I wasn't bothered. My heart was aching too much for me to care. My steps were unsteady as I wandered aimlessly down the empty street. Every breath felt like a struggle and every sob was like a fresh wound for me. This must be my punishment. The words played over and over in my mind like a cruel mantra. Mary's POV I sat on the balcony with my fingers curled around the warmth of my coffee mug, yet I couldn't feel anything. The sky was clear and the morning sun was gentle against my skin, but inside me, I was so cold that my internal organs felt numb. My phone vibrated on the small table beside me. It was Danny calling me again. I swallowed while watching the screen as it kept flashing his name over and over. My fingers twitched but I didn't pick it up as I couldn't, no matter how badly I wanted to. No matter how much I wanted to hear his voice, the image of him and Donna had burned into my mind and it kept replaying in an endless loop. The door creaked open with Reid stepping onto the balcony. Mary's POV I sat across from Reid at our usual meeting joint, the place where I was almost shaking as my fingers nervously traced the rim of my cup. I took a deep breath and finally let out the words that were weighing on my chest. "I'm getting married." Reid's grip on his cup tightened for a fraction of a second but he managed to force a smile. "I'm happy for you." I searched his face as I was certain that his smile didn't quite reach his eyes, he was clearly not happy. I hesitated for a while before continuing.
