As I slipped out, I was greeted with the night's chilly wind that slapped my face and made my hair fly in different directions. The city was lit with neon lights. I wore my hoodie’s cap over my hair and held the burner phone.Doubt gnawed at me. Mariel’s warnings. Helena’s scandals. Still, whatever drew me to Alaric felt stronger than all of it.I needed his arms, his truth, his body to silence the noise. When I got to the entrance of Alaric's building, he was already waiting for me there in the shadows. His eyes were on me. We didn't speak to each other, I stepped inside onto the elevator together with him.Seconds after I entered the elevator, he pinned me to the elevator walls as the doors closed. Then his mouth was on mine. He kissed me hungrily, like he had been starving for ages.He fisted his hands on my hair, my hoodie cap was long gone. His hands on my hair made my head bent backwards, then he deepened the kiss. With his tongue claiming every inch of my mouth. His grip was

The boardroom at St. Lucia Hospital felt like a lion's den.A fortress, polished mahogany, frosted glass, high above the city where every decision seemed heavier. The boardroom is big, with frosted glass, it is located on the last floor. Where every one's fate gets to be decided.Sunlight came in through the blind in a sharp bright line, casting shadows in the room.I sat in the back row, the way my heart was pounding because saying my heart was beating was an understatement. It was pounding like it would fall out anytime soon.I dressed to look presentable, even though my mind was in chaos. I wore a black pencil skirt and blouse, it looked professional. But the professionalism did nothing to calm my nerves, and my shaking sweaty hands.Hewwww.Alaric had begged me not to come. He said I should stay away. And that it’s too dangerous. But I couldn’t, not when everything depended on this meeting. Elias’s silence since last night after the confrontation made me feel uneasy. Helena’

The thought of it all was driving me insane.Mariel opened the door open before I could knock, her face already pale.“Oh God, Isola.”She didn’t wait for me to speak, she just pulled me inside. Rain dripped from my coat onto the rug, the apartment warm and softly lit, fairy lights glowing.I barely made it two steps before I collapsed on her. The dam broke.I was sobbing, and crying ugily. She wrapped her arms around me, holding me steady, and rubbing my back.“It’s okay,” she murmured. “Let it out. I’ve got you. I'm here.”We ended up on the couch, with my head on her lap.My tears soaked her jeans as I told her about everything. The video. Elias. The boardroom. The way it all happened at once.“It’s over,” I choked. “Everything’s ruined. They saw… all of it. Me. Like that.”Mariel’s hand was stroking my hair to calm my hiccups. “Shh. Breathe,” she murmured. “You’re safe here.” Her voice softened, then sharpened with anger. “Elias is a monster, but we’re not powerless. We’ll fi

The cabin came into view through the fog, the ambiance was blurry until the headlight shone on the wall.Earlier, Alaric suggested that we should go to the Cabin, to cool off and release stress.Alaric slowed down and pulled into the driveway, then shut off the engine. Rain was beating heavily on the roof. Neither of us spoke right away, we had nothing to say. It was just a peaceful silence. He reached across the console and took my hand. His thumb brushed my knuckles sweetly and he kept on stroking my fingers.“We’re safe here,” he said quietly.I wanted to believe him.The board’s inquiry is still reflecting in my head. Elias’s messages still in my mind heavy as a warning: You can’t hide forever. I own the board now.I stared at the cabin, at the dark trees crowding around it, and tried to breathe like this was just a stop, and not another place to be cornered.I leaned in, capturing his mouth in a hungry, desperate kiss. He kissed me back, deep and possessive, with his fingers

The boardroom felt suffocating, with a smell of coffee and expensive perfumes. It was the kind of place where decisions were made without raising voices and lives were quietly dismantled inside the four corners of the room.I sat at the long table, fingers folded tightly on my lap to steady their shaking. My eyes were fixed on the folder in front of me.Isola Wren – Witness Statement. My ribs still ache from that cabin fight though I have been taking my meds and having enough rest. But gradually I am getting myself. It's been three days since the police raid, Elias’s escape, and now this: an emergency ethics inquiry about Alaric.Just to drag Alaric's name like a stain. It all started with a memo that was slipped under Alaric’s office door at dawn.It was anonymous, of course.Stating Ethics Violation: Patient-Doctor Boundary Breach. With Evidence Attached. The “evidence” were lies upon lies twisted as truth. Which were:An altered appointment logs showing “extended consultations”
