LizabellaWhere am I? The question echoed through my head as I pushed past another curtain of branches. I couldn’t see clearly because everything was smeared in fog, causing my vision to blur, and each breath I took felt like I was inhaling cold smoke.I kept walking, even though my legs trembled beneath me. Then, after several sluggish steps, a familiar shape emerged in the gloom, it was the same tree with the split trunk, and a bark scarred like claw marks, that I'd passed at least three times. My heart sank. “I already passed you,” I murmured, my voice cracking. Then I turned sharply to the left, determined to break whatever circle I had been trapped in. I walked faster, stumbling over roots, scraping my arms on branches, and pushing deeper into the forest. Minutes, or hours, later, I stopped and there it was again, the same tree.A tremor ran through me as my head swayed, my limbs felt heavy, and the growls I’d been trying to ignore rolled again from somewhere deep in the forest.
