Maya couldn't sleep. She lay in the unfamiliar bed staring at the ceiling while her brain replayed that text message over and over. They knew where she lived now, they knew the exact floor, knew she had a view. They were watching, always watching. The apartment was quiet except for the sound of the refrigerator and occasional sounds from other units. City noises came in through the windows also, sounds of cars, sirens, life continued like nothing was wrong everywhere was busy with life activities going on.Maya checked her phone. It was two in the morning. She'd been lying here for four hours trying to force sleep that wouldn't come. Her body was exhausted but her mind wouldn't shut off and sleep..She sat up and grabbed the hoodie that was over her chair. Wore it and opened her bedroom door quietly. The hallway was dark but she could see light coming from Dominic's door. He was awake too.Maya moved slowly to the kitchen and filled a glass with water. Drank it standing at the sink

Maya woke up alone in Dominic's bed. Sunlight filled the room making her squeeze her eyes. She reached for her phone on the nightstand. Nine thirty. She'd slept through her alarm, that she didn't here it ring. Through her eight o'clock class, through everything. She sat up fast and immediately regretted it. Her head spun. Her body ached from tension she'd been carrying for days. She layed down immediately tonlet her rest before sitting up again. She needed coffee. Needed to get to campus. Needed to finish up what was left of her academic life.Maya found Dominic in the kitchen making eggs. He looked like he just finished showering. Changed. Ready for the day while she felt like a mess."You let me sleep." Maya grabbed a mug and poured coffee. "I missed class.""You needed sleep more than class." Dominic slid eggs onto a plate. "Eat something. Then we'll talk about today.""There's nothing to talk about." Maya took the plate even though her she was not hungry. "I'm going to campus. Ca

The clubhouse was packed by the time they arrived. Every Iron Wolf in the city had arrived for the emergency meeting. The parking lot walls filled with motorcycles. Inside the main room men stood in groups talking in low but urgent voices.Maya walked in feeling every eye turn toward her watching her.She wasn't supposed to be here. The emergency church was for pack members only. But Dominic had insisted she come and attend. He said she needed to hear what was going to be decided since it was about her."Stay with Carol." Dominic guided her toward the kitchen where Carol was already setting up coffee. "This might take a while.""What are you going to decide?" Maya grabbed his arm before he could walk away. "What are you planning?""To end this." Dominic's voice was hard and stealing. "One way or another."He disappeared through the church door with Jake and Connor. The door closed and locked. Maya heard the sound of chairs scraping the ground. Voices rising. The meeting had started."C

Maya sat in the kitchen with Carol pretending to drink tea she didn't want. The older woman kept trying to make conversation but Maya's mind was elsewhere. Planning. Calculating. Figuring out exactly how to slip away without being caught. The clubhouse was busy with activity. Members came in and out grabbing weapons, loading magazines, checking bikes. Everyone focused on the midnight attack. Nobody is paying attention to one girl sitting quietly in the corner. That was her advantage. Being overlooked, being underestimated, being the victim everyone thought needed saving instead of someone capable of saving herself."You should try to rest." Carol checked the clock. "It's going to be a long night.""I'm not tired." Maya set down her untouched tea. "Can I use the bathroom?""Of course honey." Carol pointed toward the hallway the direction of the bathroom. "Take your time."Maya walked to the bathroom and locked the door behind her. Pulled out her phone and checked the time. Ten fifteen.

Dominic looked at the plan, it could work, it's risky but possible. Get someone on the roof, drop in from above, grab Maya and get out immediately before the Vipers realise what happened."How long to get on the roof?" He asked."Five minutes or maybe less." Wrench pointed to a fire escape on the adjacent building. "Connor is the lightest, he dont have much weight, He goes up, drops in and grabs Maya. We cover his exit."It was a crazy idea about a hundred things could go wrong, but it was better than entering through the front door."Do it." Dominic made the call. "Connor you're up, Jake and I will position at the front, when Connor grabs Maya we go loud, Create confusion and everywhere will be noisy so that the vipers won't notice that we have rescued Maya and everyone tries to gets out alive."Connor nodded and moved toward the fire escape. Dominic and Jake crept closer to the entrance, positioned themselves where they could see inside without being seen.Maya sat perfectly still
