Jessica POV I sat there confused by what the doctor was saying. “Can you repeat that, please?” I asked. Cole was holding onto my hand tightly, but I was numb from what I had just heard. “Of course; I am not saying never, I am simply saying there would need to be another surgery to try and remove the scarring from the original wound,” she shared. “And then Jessica would be able to conceive?” Cole asked for clarification. Cole POV It had been three hours since they had whisked Jess away. My heart was in my throat the entire time. Not just because I knew she wanted to have a baby of her own; I was more afraid of what her response would be if she was not able to have children. I had meant what I had said to her. If we had our own children or adopted them, it would not matter to me. I had no idea how else to assure her of this. Carson and Marly had been waiting with me until we had a call that there were rogues attacking our southern border. They left immediately, promising to return. It seemed like they were back before I knew it. I looked up and Marly was walking down the hall with a baby in her arms. “What happened?” I asked. “The attack quickly ended; however, we lost two warriors,” she shared. “Our warrior couple,” she added. I looked to the ground. They had just had a pup; now the pup would grow up without its parents.

Jessica POV We had been home for a few days. Belle had ensured I healed quickly, for which I was grateful. Being healed meant Cole and I could start trying for our pup. I knew Cole was fine with whatever happened, but I had not realized how much I wanted this. Every time I was around Everly, I felt hope in my chest. And I could see how good Cole was with her. And now that the new pup was here for the week, I could see how Cole was able to adjust to any situation. I had been reluctant to be around the pup. I was sorry for the loss of both his parents. I would never have believed how complete I would feel once we had a pup, but Malcolm has proven that to be true every day.
