ALVINI didn't care about being gentle anymore. The second my mouth slammed back against hers, every ounce of restraint I’d been torturing myself with all evening died. I wrapped my arms around her waist, lifting her slightly to compensate for her bad leg, and pressed her hard against the nearest wall. She let out a soft gasp into the kiss and was kissing me back with a desperate kind of hunger that mirrored my own, her lips parting easily under mine. The sweet, maddening scent of her shampoo filled my senses, driving me completely insane. I trailed my lips down from her mouth, tasting the smooth skin of her jawline before sinking my teeth lightly into the sensitive spot on her neck that I’d teased earlier. She whimpered, her head tilting back to give me better access. A voice at the back of my head kept screaming about how wrong this was but I couldn't bring myself to give a shit. The sudden vibration against my thigh made me freeze. I ignored it, pressing my hips harder against her

ALVINThe second my eyes locked onto my father’s face, I knew.He wasn't some damn hero that the nurse was painting him out to be and if no one else could, I could tell right away. His loosened tie which he did whenever he was stressed or pissed, the wrinkled jacket, and that calm, unbothered look on his face that seemed more like relief even if we haven't heard an update on Jenna yet. It all made sense. He was involved in Jenna's accident. I could feel it in my gut. One way or another, he was responsible for this. Before he could even say another word, I smashed my fist into his jaw.His head snapped to the side and he stumbled back against the hospital wall in shock.“Alvin, how dare–” he began to yell but I didn't give him time to recover. I pulled my fist back again, ready to punch him square in the face but he was quick and dodged it. I swung again but this time, he blocked my next blow with his forearm, grunting loudly, and immediately threw a punch back that caught me right in

VIANAMy head felt heavy, and my body felt completely exhausted when I finally opened my eyes. The bright lights of the hospital room made me wince, and for a second, I couldn't remember why I was lying in a hospital bed. Then, everything came rushing back."Viana? Hey, look at me," Alvin's voice broke through my thoughts. He rushed to my side immediately, his face full of worry as he leaned over the bed. "Are you okay? How do you feel?"He started fussing over me, adjusting my pillow and checking my face, his hands shaking slightly."Alvin..." I muttered, my throat dry. I looked around the room, hope flaring up in my chest for a split second. "My mom... the accident. It was a dream, right? Please tell me it was just a bad dream."Alvin paused what he was doing and his expression was so blank that I was hoping he would open his mouth and tell me that I was crazy and that nothing happened to my mother and then he would give me some stupid reason why I ended up in the hospital again but

VIANAI sat on the edge of my mother’s bed, staring down at the open box I had pulled from under it. My fingers brushed over the glossy surfaces of the photographs, each one showing my father with a different woman. Some were taken in restaurants, others outside hotels, all dated months and weeks back.Beside the photos lay the separation letter Alvin had found in her bag. Reading through the typed lines again, the reality of it all just made me feel hollow. My mother knew everything, and she was trying to escape him. Now she was lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines, and I had no idea what to do next.We had no real proof to show the police, and tomorrow we were supposed to move right into Alvin’s father's house and even that knowledge made me feel a bit awkward because I didn't know how violent he was so what if he found out what we were planning and hurt us too?I shook the thoughts away. No, Viana. This wasn't the time to be pessimistic about this. I was doing this for m

VIANNAI woke up early the next morning in the unfamiliar room on the ground floor of Benson’s mansion. The bed was huge and comfortable, but sleeping under the same roof as the man who likely put my mother in a coma made my stomach turn.I sat up slowly and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. When I stood up and took a few steps across the room, I noticed my ankle was feeling a lot better. The resting and the medication the hospital gave me had worked wonders. It still throbbed slightly, but I could actually walk on it without needing Alvin to support me.I walked into the adjoining bathroom, showered, and got dressed in my school uniform. Today was a school day, and despite everything going on, I couldn't afford to skip classes especially after all the ones I had missed. Once I was prepared, I picked up my bag and walked out of the room, walking down the stairs and hallway until I reached the massive dining area.Alvin was already there. He was dressed too, standing near the l
