Elvanya's POV Kael carried me through parts of the palace I had never seen before. We went down corridors that were darker and quieter than the main halls and finally he stopped in front of a heavy wooden door with no guards standing outside. He pushed it open with his shoulder and carried me inside. The room was nothing like his public chambers where I cleaned every day. This space felt private and personal. The walls were darker and there were fewer decorations. Everything smelled like him and it made my head spin. Kael set me down carefully on a chair near the fireplace. His hands were still covered in blood but he was being so gentle with me that it made my chest hurt. "Are you injured?" He started checking my arms and then my shoulders. His fingers moved over my skin looking for cuts or bruises. "Did they hurt you before I got there?" "No, I'm fine." My voice was shaky. "You got there before they could touch me."
