Violet“What would you like to have today, Miss Violet?” the waitress asked me with a polite smile. For fifteen minutes, I stared at Nate across from me, counting how many times his phone lit up instead of his eyes meeting mine.Alpha Nate was the alpha of Night Howl Pack and the man I was going to be married to soon. I waited for him to get off the phone. To look at me.We were seated at the fanciest restaurant of Ashville and I had made the reservations weeks in advance in a desperate attempt to rekindle our relationship. I had taken an effort to dress up, curl my hair but all of it had gone unnoticed. The restaurant lighting made the sequins on my dress glimmer faintly, and I caught my reflection in the mirrored panel beside us.I looked… hopeful. Too hopeful.“I will wait until he is free,” I said. “Of course,” The waitress nodded and turned to cater to the other customers.I twiddled with my fork as I looked around. A few tables across from me, a guy proposed to his girlfriend

Violet"Really, Violet. How long are you going to play all dumb and naïve?" Nate asked, voice laced with venom.Nicole shook her head and whispered."This is your office, Nate. Do you want the employees to gossip and talk badly about you? You have clients waiting outside. Relax, please."So she was the one who brought new clients? For whom Nate cleared his entire schedule for today?"Please, just accept your mistake and beg for his forgiveness, Violet. It is not that hard." She insisted, and Nate leaned back on the chair as if she were the one in charge."Forgiveness for what?" I shouted, hating the way she was pacifying him over something I didn't even understand yet, and he was letting her.She turned the laptop screen around and said, "You really shouldn't have done that, Violet."I stared at the screen in horror to see a dating profile on an app with my details and some very suggestive photos. The kind I’d never taken.I looked from the screen to Nate. "That is not me, nor did I cr

VioletThat news should have made me glad. I was nursing a very recent heartache and just erased everything connecting me to the man I’d been dreaming of marrying. But the way my mother said that line told me our pack’s situation was grave.Dad immediately fussed over me. “Ignore your mother, you have come home after such a long time.”He pulled me into a hug and said to mom. “She must be hungry. Get her something to eat.”Mom hurried inside the kitchen while servants brought my bags inside. I had mixed feelings about returning to the place I had grown up in.I recalled how I had left happily from this home, telling my parents proudly that I was creating my own pack, my own little nest with Nate. But I had burned everything down, stripped it bare with my hands before coming here. A lump rose in my throat that I quickly swallowed to quash down the painful memories.“Is everything alright?” I asked my father whose tense smile didn’t escape my eyes.“Nothing you need to worry about” He s

VioletThe car roared to life, the sound of my raging heart dying down over the powerful hum of the engine, and then Elijah drove off.I stood staring like an idiot at the black beast that disappeared from my view, still trying to process what Elijah had said.Maybe I should follow him, but it was already nearing dawn, and he had driven off to Goddess knew where with a thinly veiled threat aimed at me.I was out in the open, but all the air around me couldn’t fill my damn lungs.‘Breathe, Violet. Breathe’“He is going to cut me open and torture me.” I mumbled to myself, my palm slapping my forehead.“Not with a knife, and he said you would enjoy it” Rain supplied, and I mentally rolled my eyes at her.Couldn’t she have shown up earlier when I was trying to explain my predicament to him?My phone rang, and I fished for it from the purse to see a dozen missed calls from my parents. I had put it on silent mode earlier.“Do you want to give your dad a heart attack by running off the secon

VioletI stood rooted to the spot for a second as the girl continued to blabber something. And my eyes widened in surprise.I was not sure what I had expected when I entered his office, maybe him scowling at his employees but definitely not a girl leaning in for a kiss.My mind told me I should look away, that I had definitely chosen the worst possible time to interrupt something. But my eyes refused to obey. They kept staring at the way he hugged her back, the way she grabbed his face and raised herself on the toes to reach his chin.I couldn’t see her face yet, but they appeared close….way too close if he was letting her touch him like that. She was wearing a long overcoat, and her long, curly hair spilled onto her shoulders gracefully. Slowly, she brought her lips closer and then planted a kiss on his cheek just as I had begun to squint my eyes. And then a smile appeared on his lips. Not the scowl he gave me last night, but a real smile that made him look even more appealing. That
