PRESENT DAY: (WEDDING NIGHT)(CARLTON’S POV) Coldness seeps into my bones.Air curls around me like a fog. I feel like a paper swaying in the wind. My lashes flutter open. I lock eyes with the Moon, stars, and halo of purplish-blue clouds. Looking down, there’s no bed, and my body goes into panic mode. Iron rattles as I kick in thin air. Pain bites my wrists and legs, rendering me immobile. Where am I?Honkings. Distant voices. The burning of weed assaults my senses. Gasping, I peer down, and my spine melts to jelly. “Somebody help!”Chains bound my body, and my mouth is taped shut. I dangle over the edge, hips resting on the platform, ass in the air, totally vulnerable. Cars buzz on the ground. Silhouette of people. Then it sounds— deep, hard, rough, a tone bordering between tenor and bass, the voice in my nightmares, the ghoul in my dark. Clipping my eyes shut, I feel the air thicken, shoe cobbling against stone. Closer and closer, until he’s behind me. Cedarwood. Weed
