WHAT HAVE I DONE

JAXSON’S POVThe past two weeks had been grueling.Between border matters, winter supplies running low, and trying to keep peace within the pack, I barely felt like a man anymore. I was running on black coffee and three hours of sleep, carrying a weight that felt heavier by the day."You look like hell, Jaxson," Marcus said, leaning against the balcony railing next to me.Marcus was my Beta, but more than that, he was the closest thing I had to a real friend in this place. He was the only one who didn't bow his head every time I breathed."Thanks, Marcus," I grunted, taking a sip of cold coffee. "Appreciate the vote of confidence."Marcus chuckled, but his eyes drifted down to the courtyard below. I didn't need to look to know what he was watching. Or rather, who.Ava was down near the glasshouse, holding a crate of herbs for the elder healers. She was wearing dark jeans and a soft charcoal sweater. Simple, comfortable, and completely her. Then, she laughed. It was a real, br

NEVER AGAIN

AVA'S POVMartha! Stop climbing the tree.” I yelled standing beside the apple tree. “Aunt Ava,” Ryan called, tugging on my shirt. “Look at the car I made.”“One second Ryan, I need to get Martha from the tree.” Before I could call out to the five old again, I felt someone come beside me. It was Lily. Martha and Ryan's mother.“Martha!” She yelled. “Down. Now.” Well that did it. The girl came running down at record speed, looking at her mother who was giving her the death glare. I knew that look all too well. I'd spent most of my childhood on the receiving end of it.Martha landed on the ground and immediately tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear before looking up at her mother. The gesture hit me like a punch. My sister used to do that whenever she knew she'd been caught doing something she wasn't supposed to.Shit. It had been so long since I'd let myself think about her."I told you to keep them away from the orchard, Ava," Lily grumbled, though her lips twitched with amuse

FIND PLEASURE SOMEWHERE ELSE

JAXSON’S POVShe left. She actually left me standing there. What was worse? She and Ethan had been fooling around for over fifteen minutes like a pair of irresponsible children. I knew because I'd been standing there long enough to watch it. Neither of them had even noticed I'd arrived. And now she was angry? How was any of that my fault? My wolf was territorial. Possessive. Every Alpha's wolf was. Seeing my own mate laughing in the middle of the night with another man, my own brother, no less, was bound to set him off.Besides... what would the pack think if they saw them? Rumors spread faster than wildfire around here.Maybe it was a bad idea putting Ethan in charge of her security. He is one of our strongest fighters, and I thought she'd appreciate having a familiar face around. Yet she's getting mad at me? Fuck being nice. I wasn't... perfect. Hell, I wasn't even close. But surely she had enough respect for this pack and for the position she held not to go gallivanting aro

NOT HER. NOT ANYONE

Ava’s POVThe morning had started out so peacefully.I had spent two hours down by the orchard, helping the pack healers harvest fresh yarrow. I'd always loved working with herbs. Even as a child, I'd spent hours with the healers, learning the names of different plants and what they could be used for. It was one of the few things I'd genuinely enjoyed back then. When I left Silver Ridge, I thought I'd left that part of myself behind too. Instead, I found myself studying pharmacology in the city, fascinated by the way plants could be turned into medicines. Coming back here had unexpectedly brought me back to something I'd forgotten I loved.By afternoon, Ethan and I were down at the lower village square, helping vendors set up stalls for the upcoming harvest market.Neither of us mentioned what happened the night before. Probably for the best.I hoped Ethan knew my little declaration about him answering to me had only been meant to rile his brother. I didn't actually care who he answer

NOT OBSESSED

JAXSON’S POVI was losing my mind. For forty-eight hours since the lilies incident, I hadn't slept. I hadn't fed properly. I had spent every second of the night standing in the dark shadows outside her wing, tracking her pulse through the stone walls, completely consumed by an unhinged, sickening obsession. The threat of the poison had stripped away whatever sanity I had left. The idea of anyone touching what belonged to me made my blood run black.I had spent the entire night looking for the person who sent those flowers.I found nothing. No scent. No trace. No witness who had seen the delivery. Nothing. And somehow, that wasn't what bothered me most.It was the fact that I knew exactly where Ava was.I knew when she ate, I knew when she went to the healers, I knew which corridor she preferred, I knew which chair she always chose during council meetings, I knew how many times she checked the door before going to sleep. I knew far too much. And I couldn't make myself stop.My moth

THE ONLY REASONABLE THING

JAXSON’S POVThe whole pack had been moving like a hive lately, preparing for the Moonlight Shower. It was a rare event, occurring only once every seventy-six years, and pack history dictated that any Royal mated pair bound during its year would share an extraordinary, legendary rule.I didn't doubt Ava’s ability to be Luna for a single second. She was brilliant, sharp, resourceful, and fiercely protective of those under her care. She was everything this pack needed. If anyone should be doubted, it was me.I couldn't seem to focus on a single damn task. My father was still grumbling from his retirement, my mother was constantly dripping poison into my ear about marking a border brat, and my own brother seemed to be orbiting my Luna way too closely. To top it all off, I had zero leads on who had sent those neurotoxic lilies to her doorstep. My mind kept drifting back to the spy we had captured a few days prior. Was he connected to it? Who could possibly be so suicidal as to touch

NIGHT OUT

AVA'S POVThe heavy bass from the car stereo vibrated through the leather seats as Ethan drove toward the human sector. Outside, neon signs blurred across the streets, their violet and blue lights reflecting against the windows.I leaned my head back and closed my eyes, still thinking about the ridiculous scene back at the estate.“What do you think that whole garden setup was about?” I asked, breaking the silence. “Knowing Jaxson, he probably had the guards decorate the place for some ridiculous political stunt. Another chance to play the perfect Alpha for the elders.”"Maybe."Ethan's answer was surprisingly quiet.I frowned, turning my head to look at him in the dim dashboard light. "You don't agree?""I didn't say that.""Then what are you saying?"He tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his eyes fixed on the dark road ahead. "I'm saying Jaxson has always been... complicated."A bitter laugh escaped me. "Complicated?""He was an asshole," Ethan said flatly.I blinked,

SCREW YOU, ALPHA

AVA'S POVBy the time Jaxson pulled into the private driveway, the tequila had turned my brain into thick mush, making the world spin in slow, agonizing circles. He didn't make me walk. He carried me through the side entrance, my head resting heavily against the crook of his neck, his scent wrapping around me like a warm blanket. As we crossed the secluded stone courtyard near my wing, the soft glow of glass lanterns caught my eye. Rows of night-blooming jasmine, dark yarrow, and some medicinal herbs filled everywhere, spilling a sweet fragrance into the night air.I hadn't taken my time to properly examine it before, but damn, it was so gorgeous.I blinked through my heavy haze, staring at the plants."Such a pretty garden," I mumbled into his throat.Jaxson paused, his arms tightening slightly around me as his golden eyes softened in the dim light."You like it?" he whispered, his voice low and raspy. "It's yours, Ava. Anything you want in this house is yours."I was too out o

IN SYNC

Memories hit me in sharp, mortifying fragments. Fuck.Jaxson carrying me past the new courtyard. Me puking my guts out while he held back my hair and stroked my back. Him brushing my teeth with absolute, terrifying patience. And then…My face turned so hot I thought my skin might melt off.“Touch me. Fuck me, Jaxson. Right now.”I let out a low, muffled groan, burying my face in my palms. I had practically thrown myself at him, and he had turned me down to play the noble gentleman. I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole."You don't have to look like that."I gasped, sitting up so fast. Jaxson was standing by my door, I hadn't realized when he entered. He took a few steps into the room, looking absurdly handsome and infuriatingly well-rested. Gosh, he looked so hot in the morning. He was still in his dark trousers and a crisp shirt, a steaming mug of coffee resting in his large hand. The hand that was in between my thighs yesterday…"Like what?" I choked out, pullin

HATE SEX

AVA'S POV We spent five minutes staring hungrily at each other.I backed up until my spine hit a massive oak tree, chest heaving. Jaxson didn’t give me room to breathe. I could feel the heat pooling between my legs as I bit my lips. Why did he look hot with bruises and dirt all over? A small girl came to hand over clothes to both me and Jaxson forcing us to break our stares, but the tension remained.“I'd change behind that massive tree in the woods,” I said, giving him a small seductive smile before walking towards the tree with a slow gait. It was out of sight from the few wolves lurking around. They could easily hear us, but I didn’t care.Three…Two….One…He closed the distance like a predator, his massive frame stalking forward, his eyes glowing with a dark, unhinged fire.He slammed his hands onto the tree trunk on either side of my head, trapping me completely. His large, calloused hands clamped around my thighs, as he lifted me in one go. He caught my lips in a hot, steamy
