Despite the dark, her dead cell phone, and the freezing slush from the grass as it seeped into her worn-out sneakers, Charlotte moved at a steady pace. Her confidence never faltered. Though it took several hours, by her estimation as she watched the moon, Lotte felt surprisingly full of energy as she made it to the town welcome sign. To avoid being hit by any random car along the way, she had opted to stay off the road and was sure she was now sporting a few nasty blisters.
