Lucian’s eyes were bloodshot as he smashed bottles against the floor. His room was in ruins. Margaret, as usual, was there, trying to calm him…but she kept her distance, because she was scared Lucian might hurt her. “It wasn’t my fault,” he muttered, pacing. “I tried to save the child, didn’t I? Was it my fault he dropped her?” He staggered toward Margaret and collapsed into her arms, his voice suddenly quiet after nearly an hour of rage. She hadn’t seen what happened, so…couldn’t say anything in response to his question but she was angry. Zara was gone. Tears slipped down her cheeks. “Bella has left you,” she said slowly. “And I am an old woman, Lucian. If I die tomorrow, you will be completely alone. Do you understand the gravity of what has happened?” She paused, searching his face. “Tell me… do you still think you can never love a woman?” “I can’t live without her,” he said. “She still needs me. She’s just angry. I’ll go back tomorrow. I’ll get her pregnant… she’ll have

Lucian arrived at the meeting with Bella held close against his side, his grip on her was very possessive.“Mr. Rodriguez, we didn’t expect to see you here after the unfortunate events,” a man said, stepping forward to shake his hand.“Unfortunate indeed,” Lucian replied. The man’s gaze shifted to Bella.“Mrs. Rodriguez… you don’t look too bad. After all, the child wasn’t yours. I’m sure it wasn’t difficult to move on. We’ll be expecting good news soon,” he laughed.Lucian smiled at the remark.Bella’s chest burned. What was funny?, If not for the control she was forcing on herself, she would have slammed his head into the nearest wall. The comment stung and it was way worse because Lucian smiled , though he was fully aware of how much she had loved Zara.“Hi, Bella,” Anita said, approaching them. “I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you’re okay.”Bella nodded stiffly, holding in her tears. “Excuse me.”She walked away before anyone could say more. The moment she was out of sight, her

Lilah’s eyes fluttered open, and the first face she saw was Caspien’s. He sat close, watching her with intensity.“Caspien… how long have I been here?” she whispered, her voice weak.“Two weeks,” he replied. “You lost a lot of blood and developed an infection. The doctors had to keep you unconscious for your own safety.”Lilah swallowed. “And… How are you out of jail?”“I have my ways,” he said with a faint smile. “Lucian isn’t the only one who knows how to pull strings… or break them.” He reached out and gently brushed his fingers across her forehead. She nodded slowly, then placed a trembling hand over her stomach.“What about my baby?”Caspien went still. The silence got longer than it should have.“Please… say something,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. He looked down, jaw tight. “They’re gone, Lilah, our twins.”Tears slipped down her cheeks instantly.“It’s that bastard Lucian’s fault—” he started.“Stop,” she cut him off, her voice cracked. “Just stop. I don’t want

Bella looked at him and realized he had passed out.She gently slipped out from under his arm, easing him aside without waking him. She quickly pulled on her nightdress, then tiptoed to the door. With one last glance at Lucian, she opened it silently and hurried back to her room.Once inside, Bella shut the door behind her and leaned against it, letting out a deep sigh of relief. She picked up her phone from the bedside table. It was just 3 a.m.Without wasting another second, she changed into her clothes, grabbed her small bag, and rushed downstairs.“Where are you going?”Bella froze at the sound of the voice. She turned to see Margaret standing in the kitchen doorway, watching her.“I’m leaving,” Bella said, forcing a painful smile. “I can’t stay. I’m sorry… it’s not your fault, I promise. But staying with Lucian…”“I know,” Margaret replied softly. “And I won’t stop you. You’ve made your decision..Go.”A single tear slipped down Margaret’s cheek. “And take care of the child,” she

Two months had passed since Bella left.Lucian hadn’t stepped foot in the office since then. He worked from home when he could…when he wasn’t busy drowning in his own thoughts, cursing himself and everything around him. Slowly, he was falling apart.Margaret pushed open the door to his room. The sight made her chest tighten. The place was a mess, empty bottles scattered across the floor, clothes thrown carelessly around. It didn’t feel like a room anymore. It felt like a cage.“Dear…” she called softly. “Why don’t you go outside for a while? Get some fresh air. You don’t have to keep shutting yourself in like this.”Lucian sat up from the bed, his eyes dull and drained of life.“Why didn’t you stop her?” he asked, his voice rough. “You saw her trying to leave...“You could have tried to stop her… begged her to stay.” He swallowed hard. “Can’t she come back?”Margaret’s expression softened with pain.“She’s in a better place now,” she said. “If you truly love her, then you should try to
