Chapter 101 - New Gate

Eliza's POVThe gate didn't creak anymore.Adam had fixed it years ago, replaced the old hinges, reinforced the latch. But I still heard it sometimes. A ghost sound. A reminder of all the people who'd walked through, hesitant and hopeful, afraid to believe they belonged.Clara stood beside me now, her hand on the wood."You're sure about this?" I asked."I've never been more sure."She pushed the gate open.On the other side, a woman waited. Young, maybe twenty five. A baby on her hip. A suitcase at her feet."Clara Sterling?" the woman asked."Clara Thorne now. But yes."The woman's eyes filled. "I'm Lydia. I think I'm your cousin. My mother she was one of the lost ones. She died before she could find this place."Clara stepped forward. "You're not lost anymore."Lydia stepped through the gate. The garden was full of light. The New GenerationI watc

Chapter 102 - The Grave

Eliza's POVThe cemetery was quiet. We came at dusk, when the shadows were long and the gates were about to close. Adam drove. Marcus sat in the back, silent. Reyes had a team hidden in the trees, watching for anyone who might be following.I hadn't been here since my mother's funeral. The headstone was simple, weathered by decades of rain and wind.Clara Sterling. Beloved mother. Rest in peace.I knelt in front of it. Touched the cold stone."I'm sorry," I whispered. "I should have come sooner."Marcus stood behind me. "The key is buried beneath the headstone. My father dug a small compartment. He said it was the only place the Collective would never look."Adam brought a small shovel. I didn't let him dig. This was my mother. My penance. I took the shovel and started to dig.The earth was soft. The work was hard. My hands blistered, but I didn't stop.Ruth watched from the car, her daughter a

Chapter 104 - The Fallout

Eliza's POV The first name dropped three days later. Senator Elizabeth Crane, a fifty year old grandmother from Ohio, was arrested at her home. The charges: bribery, conspiracy, and accessory to human trafficking. The evidence from the vault had been enough to hold her without bail. I watched the news on the kitchen television, Clara beside me, Adam standing in the doorway. The senator's face was pale, her eyes hollow. She didn't look like a monster. She looked like someone's mother. "Are you okay?" Clara asked. "I don't know." "You did the right thing." "I know." But knowing didn't make it easier. The Calls My phone started ringing immediately. Reporters, lawyers, strangers who'd somehow gotten my number. Reyes had warned me this would happen. "The names in that vault are connected to powerful people. They'll come after you. Not with guns with words. With lawsuits. With public opinion." I let the calls go to voicemail. Adam handled security. Marcus handled th

Chapter 103 - The Vault

Eliza's POV The plane touched down at JFK at noon. New York was gray, cold, the sky pressing down like a weight. Adam sat beside me, his hand on my knee. Across the aisle, Marcus stared out the window, his reflection tense. Reyes had stayed behind to handle Vera's interrogation, but she'd sent two agents to meet us at the bank. The vault was in a building on Wall Street. Old stone, brass doors, the kind of place where wealth had been hiding for centuries. I stood on the sidewalk, the key in my pocket, and tried to remember how to breathe. "You don't have to do this," Adam said. "I do." He took my hand. "Then let's go." The Bank The lobby was marble and silence. A woman in a tailored suit met us at the desk. "Ms. Sterling. We've been expecting you. Please follow me." She led us through a series of doors, each one heavier than the last.

CHAPTER 105 — The Compound

Eliza's POV Dmitri had been with us for three weeks when he asked to speak with me alone. I found him in the garden, kneeling beside the sapling he'd planted with Clara. His hands were in the dirt, his face turned toward the morning sun. He looked peaceful. Almost like he belonged. "Eliza." He stood, brushing the earth from his knees. "I need to tell you something. Something I should have told you the day I arrived." I sat on the bench beneath the tree. "I'm listening." He crossed to me, but didn't sit. He stood like a man waiting for judgment. "There's a compound. In the mountains north of here. It's where Vera trained her operatives. Where she kept children she'd taken from their families." My blood went cold. "Children?" "Not infants. Older children. Teenagers. She was building an army. A new generation of Collective soldiers." He met my eyes. "Some of them are still there." "How many?" "Two dozen, maybe more. They're being held against their will. Trained to fig

Chapter 106- The First Day

Eliza's POVThe morning after the rescue was the quietest I'd ever known. Not the silence of fear or waiting the silence of exhaustion. Twentybthree children slept in the annex, their bodies finally still, their dreams finally peaceful. I walked through the halls at dawn, checking each room, counting each face. They were so young. Some of them were younger than Clara. They'd been taken from their families, raised in isolation, told the world was their enemy. And now they were here, in a place they'd never imagined existed.Clara was already awake. She sat in the garden, a paper crane in her hands, watching the sun rise."Couldn't sleep?" I asked."Didn't want to."I sat beside her. "What are you thinking?""About them. About what they've been through. About what comes next.""They'll heal. It'll take time, but they'll heal.""How do you know?"I looked at the garden, the tree, the plaq

CHAPTER 107 — The Integration

Eliza's POV Two weeks passed. The children began to settle. Slowly, tentatively, they started to trust. They ate meals without flinching. They slept through the night without nightmares. They spoke in full sentences, asked questions, laughed at things that were funny. Maya was the first to truly open up. She followed Clara everywhere, learning to fold paper cranes, learning to garden, learning to be a child again. She was twelve, but she'd never had a childhood. Clara was determined to give her one. "Can I help with the planting?" Maya asked one morning. Clara smiled. "You can help with everything." They worked together in the garden, side by side, the sun warming their faces. I watched from the porch. "She's going to be okay," Adam said. "They all are." "Because of you." "Because of all of us."

CHAPTER 109 - THE LEDGER

Eliza's POVThree weeks after the rescue, Marcus Webb came to me with a ledger. He'd been quiet for days, holed up in the annex with his laptop, cross referencing files from the vault with something he'd found in Vera's belongings. I'd assumed he was working on legal strategy. I was wrong."This is bigger than the vault," he said, setting the leather bound book on my desk.I opened it. Rows of names. Dates. Amounts. Payments that had continued long after the Collective fell."What is this?""Vera's personal ledger. She kept it separate from the main records. These are people who paid her directly. Not the Collective. Her."I turned the pages. Names I recognized. A judge. A congressman. A woman who ran a national news network."They were funding her after the Collective collapsed?""They were funding her to rebuild it. Quietly. Under a different name. She called it the Circle."Adam stepped into

CHAPTER 110 — The Box in London

Eliza's POVThe flight to London left at dawn.Adam sat beside me, his hand in mine, the key in my pocket. Marcus had stayed behind to watch over the house, to keep the children safe, to make sure nothing happened while we were gone.Clara had wanted to come. I'd told her no."Stay with them," I said. "They need you.""They need you too.""They have you. That's enough."She'd hugged me tight at the gate. "Come back.""Always."The ArrivalLondon was gray and cold, the way I'd always imagined it.We took a car from Heathrow to a small hotel in Kensington. Reyes had arranged everything the flights, the accommodations, the security. She'd also arranged for a contact at Scotland Yard to meet us at the bank. The safe deposit box was in a private vault beneath a centuries old building in the City. The kind of place where wealth had been hiding for generations. We arrived at

CHAPTER 111 - The Letter from Maine

Eliza's POVThe weeks after the Circle fell were the quietest I'd ever known. No threats. No messages at the gate. No strangers watching from the shadows. Just the garden, the children, the slow rhythm of healing.Maya learned to ride a bike. Leo started speaking in full sentences. The other children twenty three of them, each with their own wounds and their own pace began to laugh again. To play. To believe they were safe.I watched them from the porch, Adam beside me, and felt something I hadn't felt in years.Peace.The ArrivalThe letter came on a Tuesday.Plain envelope. No return address. But the postmark was from a small town in Maine.I opened it in the study.Eliza,My name is Samuel. I'm your brother. The youngest. The one who was placed with a family in Maine.I've been watching from a distance for years. Reading about you. About Clara's House. About the family you'
