Blaine’s POVI was breathing heavily as I braced for what was coming next. The Kevlar blended straps were firmly clasped around my wrists and ankles, restricting my movements. The pain came without warning, catching me off guard. I let out a rippling roar as pointy thorns tore through my skin and protruded from my joints and spine.I dropped on all fours, the pain was so intense that it almost forced me to transform into my wolf form.I fought the urge. If I did that, the Kevlar restraints would surely snap, and then I would be unleashed.I gritted my teeth and bared them in a display of resistance. The warnings were getting worse and worse. As suddenly as the thorns began to protrude, they quickly receded and my healing kicked in.I was panting and breathing heavily, my mouth felt like I had eaten a ball of fire, hot and dry.My heart began thumping in my chest as I anticipated the worst of it.It came just as expected.A searing hot pain that felt like I was being skewered by a red-

Lacy’s POV“ME?” I almost jumped out of the car.“There are a million lawyers in New York, why me?”“You are the best I know,” Blaine said earnestly, “And frankly, the only one good enough to outdo Rafael.”I didn’t know whether to be flattered or horrified. “No, no, Blaine, get someone else to do it, I can’t,” my voice trembled as I let out the words.Even thinking about it was enough to make me shiver… it was one thing to meet Blaine and talk with him knowing he was alpha Rafael’s enemy but to betray alpha Rafael…I stopped myself. How could I be thinking like that after all he did to me?“I can’t!” I said firmly.“Lacy, listen to me, the only reason why you and your triplets have not been touched yet despite him being aware of our connection is me. Not just me, the alliance.”“But…”“There are no buts, Lacy. Don’t you see what is happening? Why he wants to suddenly break the alliance so bad? Why he wants to topple me?”I was thinking of something else in that serious moment, it w

Lacy’s POVMy body was still trembling and tingling when I got back home. I had to reach the pack on foot since I hadn’t brought my car in yet and I could not exactly uber there.Every street I passed as I made my way, I got side looks and heard hushed whispers that were not as quiet as they thought they were. They were talking about me, wondering what exactly I was doing back in the pack and how I even survived outside in the first place.I pretended not to hear them, not to see the weary and cautious looks in their eyes. A huge contrast from the welcoming warmth I received when I and the kids came back. They didn’t want me here and frankly, after what happened today, I didn’t want to be here either.Alpha Rafael was going to have my head and there was nothing Blaine could do to stop him.Absent-mindedly I pushed open the front door and collapsed on the first sofa I laid my eyes on.Mandy ran out from the corridor and jumped on me, clasping me in a fierce hug, “Welcome back, mommy!”

Rafael’s POV The black Jaguar drove in through the front gate and the first thing I noticed were the several clusters of people. I didn’t need to strain much, just by using a little of my wolf hearing I could pick up what they were talking about. A low grunt escaped my throat. The wolves who worked at Ferro Corp must have come back and spread the news that Beta Ted was in the hospital and that news was spreading around the pack like wild fire. As the car pulled into the outside garage and I got out, two deltas and four elders were waiting for me. “Alpha, we heard what happened, is everything okay?” Among the two deltas, one was in charge of war planning and the other internal security. The elders were also the four most influential of the council. For a moment, I was lost and then angry, “What do you mean? Have your Luna not already discussed this with you?” “No,” they shook their head almost simultaneously. “We have not heard anything from her.” “Soon as she came back, sh

Lacy’s POVI scoffed, “You can’t be serious.” If they had any idea how I got to look like this and what I did to stop it, they would realize that the last thing I wanted was to share a resemblance to that evil witch.“You know we wondered for a long time why you would attack the alpha’s mate. Why you would even be in the alpha’s mansion on that faithful day…”My mother collapsed back into her sofa and dropped her hands in her laps and stared at the ground. He continued, “It made no sense. A lowly commoner like you. Then it dawned on me, all the expensive gifts you hid from mom back then and then you going manic due to the declaration of the alpha finding his mate…”My heart thumped harder and harder in my chest the longer he spoke. My affair with the alpha was supposed to be a secret. But Rosa knew about it… apparently, so did Lucas.“After the disgrace you brought to the family, after all the stigma we had to endure… the Luna was still kind enough to reach out to us. To absolve us a
