Their heads leaned near her shoulders, faces marked with fatigue, grief, and the kind of emotional exhaustion words couldn’t describe.Ryan was in the armchair, arms folded, his breathing steady, his head tilted back, lost in an uneasy sleep. Ian lay near the bed, on the small rug, his fingers resting gently against the blanket covering Alexander’s feet almost as if holding on to whatever presence he could feel.
