Chapter 21 Ella Whitmore It's been three days since Kael and I kissed, but I could still feel his lips on mine. The image clung to my head like it would never leave. I've been avoiding eye contact with him for three days. I moved out of his room back to mine, barely staying in the same space as him because my body keeps screaming for him every damn time. I even moved back to my room just to feel comfortable. It's becoming frustrating. A familiar sharp pain exploded through my chest again. Avoiding Kael has brought nothing to me for these three days, but that annoying pain. The so-called mate bond has been pulling me to him, but I kept resisting it. I rubbed my chest, trying to manage the pain. My phone buzzed briefly against the bed, and I hesitantly reached for it. An email from my boss, Mr. Cole, asking why I wasn't back to work yet. I had taken days off with the excuse that I was sick just so I could figure things out here quickly and go back, but it didn't seem

Chapter 23Ella Whitmore The uneasiness of the call from the unregistered number remained in me as I went to bed.By midnight, my phone buzzed against the nightstand, and I quickly sat up, reaching for it.My breath caught in my throat when I saw the caller.Levi… My brother. My eyes flicked to the time on my phone. 1:30am.Is he okay? I panicked, swiping the answer button.“Ella…” his voice echoed from the other end, slurred, “help me… I need some money,”My grip tightened on the phone. He was high on drugs. It was evident in his voice.“Did your sister finally pick up, junky?” A masculine voice echoed, accompanied with a loud thud. Levi's groan followed.Tears blurred my vision. For a moment, I couldn't speak.I had been searching for him for several months. He'd never reached out, and all the times that I tried to reach him on the phone, he never picked up.I had gone to every crack house I know in the city, but never found him.“Hurry, Ella…They're going to kill me if you don't s

Chapter 25Levi's eyes snapped open, his heart pounding hard as his eyes wandered around the unfamiliar room.It wasn't his old rat-hole apartment, and definitely didn't look like the crack house where he would sometimes wake up to himself, all wasted.A sharp wince tore through his throat, his hand moving to grab his hair tightly as a sharp pain exploded through his head. His breath stuttered, skin itching, body trembling, and chest tightening painfully. He sat up, his eyes searching around for it… His drugs. The only thing that could calm him down at that moment, but there was no sign of it.“Wh…where is it? Shit! Where…” his voice faded into a sharp cry as pain shot through his legs when he tried to move. But still, he didn't give up.He dragged himself through the room, searching through the bags he could set his eyes on, but none of them had what he was looking for.His long nails tore through his skin in a scratch, leaving a mark on each place he scratched. His skin was bleeding

Chapter 27One week laterElla Whitmore My movements have been restricted in the Pack. Kael assigned special guards around the Packhouse to protect me and Levi. We're not allowed to step out of the Packhouse, not even outside the gate.Levi's withdrawal symptoms have gotten a bit better. He barely has an episode these days.Giselle and her daughter have been really nice to him, and he's slowly starting to adapt to life here, although he still panics sometimes whenever he sees a werewolf shifting, and because of that, Kael has instructed no werewolf should shift around Giselle's apartment, at least for now.My phone buzzed against the bed first thing as soon as I woke up in the morning. An email from my job. They're demanding that I come to the office today, or I lose my job forever as they couldn't cope with my absence anymore.I stood before the mirror, fully dressed. I'm just going to go to the office for a few hours.I can't lose my job. Aside from the pay, I love what I do.As I

Chapter 29Forty years old Cole Monroe sat behind his desktop, eyes fixed on the screen.A picture of his employee, Ella Whitmore was still displayed on his screen. His fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment before flipping to the next image. A picture of a black wolf. His eyes lingered on the wolf, heart tightening as memories of years ago clawed back into his head.Fourteen years ago, he'd lost his wife to a wolf. He was just there, hiding in the woods while watching the wolf devouring his pregnant wife. He couldn't save her. For years, Cole lived with the trauma… He didn't dare to get married again, scared that the same thing would happen, and he would not be able to protect his wife.Eight years ago, he finally built the Supernatural hunters from scratch.
