My heart refused to stop accelerating even when I was no longer with them. The question my mom asked earlier opened the wound I thought had healed. The thought that had been sitting at the back of my mind since morning vanished as raw memories crept into my head.Jake is still out there, hidden somewhere we have no idea about. What if he suddenly appeared in school next week? My leg shook as I dragged my feet to my bed and slumped on it.My heart almost jumped out of my chest when the sound of my phone buzzed loudly in the room. I held my chest and exhaled before I picked up my phone. The screen brightened with Sandra's name on it.“Hey bae, it's been a while.” Her voice came immediately after I pressed the answer button. Hey, what's up?” I forced my voice out, sounding as normal as I could. Yeah, I'm good.” She said. “Just wanted to check up on you to see how you are taking the fact that we will be seeing our presentation result next week.” She spouted at once.“Damn!! I totally forg

When the word “both.” Fell out of Ethan's mouth, I knew his plan was to avoid me. Well, two can play the game. “Why don't we just go in two?” I muttered. “I will follow Mason, and Ava will follow Ethan.” Ethan glanced at me when I said that, but I ignored his gaze again.“Well…” Ava glanced between Mason and Ethan, waiting for objections.“Let's just go with one car; going with Lila alone will be boring.” Mason said. I rolled my eyes at him. “Whatever.” I walked towards Mason's car and sat in the back seat. They all looked at me for a while before Ava finally followed me. Then Mason and Ethan followed reluctantly also. The drive to the mall was more than boring. We have been driving for almost twenty minutes now, but none of us made a single sound. The sound coming from our phone and that of the moving cars on the road were what made it not be dead silence.“I thought we were all in the same car so it wouldn't be boring, so what's going on?” I scoffed.I turned to look at Ava when t

Lila looked down shyly when my dad said that, and that made everyone burst into laughter, including me. It had been a long time since I noticed that expression on her face, and I'm glad Dad was here. “Seems like your queen has found another king.” Mom mumbled and shook her head. “That's not true, Uncle." Lila raised her head. My dad held his chest like he was heartbroken. “Your words say otherwise; now you don't call me 'my king' but 'Uncle.'” Dad pointed out. “Guess I'm no longer handsome enough to be your king anymore." He added. “That was a long time ago." Lila muttered shyly.“Oops, she said I'm old.” Dad muttered, and we all laughed again.Lila shook her head. “I never said that.” “Well, you can still give this old man a hug.” Dad said, and she moved closer to hug him.“Good day, Uncle." Mason said, Immediately Dad broke the hug with Lila.“What's up, big man?” Dad patted his shoulder lightly.“I'm good, Uncle. You look younger than the last time I saw you.” Mason said.“But

Shock was an understatement to what I felt when Lila replied to my dad's question calmly. That was supposed to be a good thing, but to my surprise, I wasn't happy about it. Maybe because I realized I have no reason to be close to her again. She is ok now; she doesn't need me anymore. The thought weighed on my mind as we walked towards my dad's study. “Your dad looks scary when angry; why do you think he wants to see us?” Mason asked beside me.“I think the answer is obvious already." I rolled my eyes.“Yeah, I know, but he looked mad." He said.“Well, we are about to know.” I muttered. My dad was already sitting when we got there, and the door was open, so we just entered and stood in front of him.“What was Lila talking about?” He asked, but none of us talked. “I think I just asked a question." He snapped. Mason's eyes widened, as he was not used to the angry side of my dad.“Uncle, I can explain." Mason muttered.“Good, I'm listening.”Mason told Dad everything that happened from

The ray of sunlight shone brightly on my face, and I kept turning from one side to another until I had no choice but to stand up. I opened my drowsy eyes lazily before sitting up. I stretched widely as a yawn left my mouth. My hands searched the table for my phone, and my eyes widened when I saw what time it was.“What! What! What! What! What! “I almost screamed, but I covered my mouth with my hands. “Shit! Why is it 10 am already? Why didn't anybody wake me up?” I mumbled while rushing into the bathroom to get my morning routine done.I guess Ava felt guilty for what she did to me last night. She promised to ask for something for me, but she didn't after warning me out in front of the mirror trying on different sorts of clothes.I groaned as I stared at myself through the bathroom mirror. “Sleepyhead.” Mumbled with my mouth full of toothpaste. Eww. I made disgusting faces.I was already done with everything in twenty minutes, and I stepped into the room wrapped in my towel. Ava was in
