My hand shook. No, no, no, he can't be here; it's too soon for him to be here, and I don't want him to be here.“Lila, do you have anyone in mind?” AVA asked.I shook my head. “No idea.” I lied; I can't possibly tell her who it is and why it's him. This is my battle, and I won't drag her into this mess with me.“Well, maybe it's just some random guy who likes you.” Sandra muttered.“Yeah, maybe.” I mumbled absentmindedly. “II will be on my way now,” Sandra said and turned to leave.“Oh yeah, thanks for coming.” I forced a smile.“You are welcome. Take care.” She said and left.I exhaled deeply immediately she stepped out. The news she brought weighed down on my mind. The urge to call for help pressed down on my throat, threatening to burst, but I won't let it. The people I would call for help had done so much to help me out of the mess I created for myself, and now, it's time I help myself.“So, you really have no idea who the person is?” Ava's voice dragged me out of my thoughts as s

I exhaled deeply when I dropped the call with Mason. Turns out I was wrong. Well, what was I expecting, that Ethan would call just to hear my voice like he used to when we were friends? Of course not. I scoffed. “Glad I ignored his calls earlier.” I mumbled with an eye roll.Ava walked back into the room with two bowls of noodles in her hands. “Who were you talking to? I heard your voice from the kitchen. She said.I tilted my head and got down from the bed. “Yeah, it's Mason; he called you.” I muttered, and she paused. She furrowed her eyebrow. “Did he say anything?” She asked.I shook my head. “Not really," he said. “He just wanted to check up on us.” “Ohh,” she mouthed. “Come on, sit down; I will go get some water.” She left for the kitchen again.I sat at our mini dining table. The aroma coming from the noodles made my stomach growl, and I licked my lips in anticipation. “Damn, I don't think I can wait for Ava any longer.” I mumbled before uncovering the noodles. “Hmmmm, this sho

Ava paced around the room. Lila, are you really sure about this? She asked for the tenth time in a minute since I sent that message. If it were me of yesterday when I first got the first message, I would have been like her too, or even worse. But not anymore; I'm done hiding behind the shadow of fear and letting my enemies control me. Their time is over, and now it's mine. “Trust me, Ava, he will be on top of the world for that simple reply just now.” I smirked. And just like I predicted, his message popped up at exactly two minutes after I sent mine. “I'm so sorry you have to pass through that, my love; if only you were obedient, that wouldn't have happened.” My blood boiled immediately when I read that message, and it took a lot in me not to slam the phone on the ground.Ava's mouth also opened as she tried to form a word. “Wow, I swear this man is a psychopath; who the hell does he think he is?” She spat.I shrugged. “I told you he is not as ok as you guys think; the normal way of

“Hey, Ethan.” “Morning, Ethan.” “What's up, Mason?”“Are you guys made for the field?”“I know, right? They got back yesterday, and here they are again this morning." Our team members said one after the other when we stepped in the field. We shook hands with them one after the other as we walked past them. I maintained my neutral expression with their comments.Mason scoffed. “I guess you enjoyed being the main player when we were not around.” They looked at him speechless, and I smirked.“Every member of the team is important, so cut the crap and stop being arrogant.” One of the team members spat.“Damn! A bee just passed.” Mason said, and the rest of the team members laughed, excluding the gentleman. The coach approached us; he clapped to get everyone's attention when he got to us. “Ok boys, let's get started. We have a lot on our plates.” He said. “Please be on your usual line,” he instructed. “Ok, that's good. Now we are going to go for a three-lap warm-up jog, and we have twen

The words resounded in my ears over and over again. “What do you mean?” I asked. He scoffed. “I said we are not coming.” He repeated the words again, and the phone almost fell out of my hands. “Hey Lila, are you there?” "Lila." Mason's voice called out from the phone, and I was lost in thought to reply. All that fills my head is the fact that our plan tonight might fail if Jake shows up. My thought snapped back when Ava snatched the phone from my hands. “Mason.” She called. “Hey Ava, what's wrong with Lila?” He asked. “Well, she is fine for now,” she smirked.“What do you mean by 'for now?'” he asked.“That's because I can't guarantee you what will happen to her at the pool party.” She said. “If you don't call the jerk friend of yours and get to the party, we are going to get wasted and get laid by any random guy.” She muttered. My eyes widened. “Ava.” I called.“What!” Mason shouted from the phone. “Ava, don't you dare try that shit.” He warned. She scoffed. “Well, get here so
