ROBIN “Shit, Lana!” I bolted away from Jack, scuttling towards her. “Lois’s daughter is my half-sister?” Her tear-filled eyes darted between Jack and I. “You knew all this time?” “Lana, I can explain, there was—” She held up a hand, silencing me at once before sprinting out of the room, leaving Jack and me staring at each other, stewing in our regret. “I’m going after her. Will you be okay?” “Yes.” He offered me a faint smile. “This is my hospital. Do you think she’ll listen?” “She has to. I’ve got to explain to her.” “What will you say?” I shrugged. I honestly didn’t know what I could possibly say to placate her. “I specifically asked you not to tell her. You could say you were following my instructions, that I didn’t think it was the right time for her to know.” “But it’s not good enough.” “Robin, you know why we had to keep it a secret. Your life was at stake. I needed to know who was and wasn’t involved in the sham. Tell her that. She’ll listen.” I nodded, h

JACK I pulled up in the driveway, making my way quickly around the car to Robin’s side, helping her out. She gaped when her feet touched the ground, her eyes wandering over the luxurious fortress. “Oh my God, Jack.” She breathed, utterly incredulous at the sight. I had to admit, I’d probably have worn the exact same expression if I weren’t so accustomed to absurdly oversized spaces. “This is beyond beautiful.” “And we’re only outside.” I mused, taking her hand and guiding her towards the ostentatious building. “This is truly overwhelming, Jack. This place is stupidly huge. It’ll only be the five of us living here.” “Six, actually. I was thinking Mag could live with us. She loves us, Robin. Her eyes were soaked with tears when she had to go back to the mansion, she wanted to tag along.” “I know.” She sighed. “I was in the car, but Lana has to agree first, the whole family has to.” I nodded, of course. I should’ve thought of that. “Come, let me show you inside.” I took he

ROBIN I winced, burying my face in my palms. “How did you know about this?” Mum breathed, her voice barely audible as the tears streamed down. “Robin knew for a while,” Lana blurted, glaring at me. “Yet she decided to keep it a secret.” “Is this true?” Lindsey turned brimming eyes on me, disappointment fixed on her features. I bobbed my head, waves of shame and yuck gushing over me. She let out a broken gasp, collapsing into the luxurious leather couch. “How could you know about something like this and not tell me?” I fell apart under the weight of guilt, haunted by the feeling that I’d betrayed her, all of them. I should’ve spoken up sooner. But I wanted to shield the family from pain, from the anguish. “I’m so sorry, Mum.” My voice cracked, tears spilling down freely. “I didn’t want to hurt you.” I wiped my face with trembling hands. “At first, I couldn’t believe it myself. I thought that if I kept it from you… maybe it’d somehow become irrelevant… unimportant. Maybe it’d di

ROBINI peered through the peephole and breathed out, the tension melting away from my shoulders, the tight knot in my chest loosening as I spotted my Dad. I unfastened the latch and pulled the door wide open for him, drawing me in for a long hug before entering. I led him into the kitchen, poured him a glass of water and sat opposite each other in silence. He looked wretched, as though he’d aged a decade in the space of a few weeks. The divorce had messed him up real bad and I doubted I had the right words to ease his pain, because no matter what, I still loved him and Mum equally. They had both loved me unconditionally when I had no one else.“How are you holding up, Dad?” I mumbled, swiping his hand into mine. “Are you okay?”He scoffed, going for laughter, but it never touched his eyes. Devastation stared back at me.“There’s no fixing how broken I am, my girl. I’m living in hell.” I lifted his hand to my cheek before placing a kiss at the back of it. “Life is horrible without you

JACKTwo hours before his visit…An unknown number had called my phone just minutes before I climbed into my Bugatti. The voice croaked down the line, claiming to know the exact location of Millicent. Ordinarily, I’d confirm with Miller first whether the tip was worth the pursuit, called their bluff or dismissed it as another pathetic attempt by someone wanting to ride on my frustration. But nonetheless I listened, calmly noting the strange address the caller gave me.I was torn in thought.Go to my girl…… or end these motherfuckers once and for all. Robin would never truly be safe while those two criminals were still out there. So I made the hardest decision of my life. I phoned the love of my fucked-up life, made it known I’d be late for our rendezvous, then gave chase to the caller’s location. The building looked old and abandoned, paint peeling from every wall, moulds creeping across ceiling, and the damp stench hung thick in the air.Who the hell could live in a place like this?
