Chapter 1

Chapter 1 ~Alex~ I could hear everyone stomping, chanting, already half-drunk on the promise of a good game. My heart pounded against my ribs as I followed my teammates toward the ice. The familiar ritual, the last few seconds before stepping into the light always made my stomach flip. Damien was ahead of me, his massive frame blocking out the lights. He turned his head just enough to catch my eye, that same cruel smirk plastered across his face. "Try not to fall on your ass out there, Rivera," he said loud enough for the guys around us to hear. "Wouldn't want everyone to see exactly what kind of player this school bought with a scholarship." I clenched my jaw. He was an asshole. Unfortunately, he was also the hottest man I had ever seen. A few of his friends laughed. I felt the heat creep up my neck, but I forced my jaw to stay loose, my shoulders to stay square. I'd learned a long time ago that showing them it hurt only made it worse. "I'll keep that in mind," I sa

Chapter 2

Chapter 2 ~Alex~ The locker room door slammed shut behind Lila and for a long moment, nobody moved. Nobody spoke. I could feel every single pair of eyes on me, burning into my skin. My cheek was still throbbing where she'd slapped me, and I could taste blood in my mouth from where my teeth had cut the inside. Then Damien turned to me. "Pathetic," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear. "Absolutely pathetic. You can't even keep your crazy girlfriend under control. She almost made us late for the game, Rivera. Late. Because of your drama." My jaw tightened. "She's not my…." "I don't care what she is." Damien stepped closer, his voice dropping but still sharp. "You're a scholarship kid. You're supposed to be invisible. You're supposed to stay out of trouble, keep your head down, and play hockey. That's it. That's all you're here for. But instead, you bring your messy personal life into my locker room and make a scene in front of both teams." I opened my mouth to snap back

Chapter 3

~Damien~ Lila’s my childhood friend. Distant enough that people don’t side-eye us at the close family celebrations, close enough that our parents still act like we’re gonna end up married and popping out trust-fund babies. She’s known me since we were kids stealing liquor from Dad’s cabinet. She thinks she knows me. She doesn’t know this part. Nobody does. I pulled into the circular driveway at her parents’ place, big white columns, lights on every bush like they’re scared of the dark and killed the engine. She was already outside on the porch steps in sweats and one of my old hoodies she never gave back, arms wrapped around her knees, mascara tracks dried on her cheeks. It looked pathetic . “Jesus, Lila, you look like a raccoon,” I said, slamming the car door. She didn’t even flinch. Just stared at me with those big wet eyes. “Shut the fuck up, You followed me because?.” “Girl why are you always on edge, what the hell was that back at the games.” “He’s supposed to be mine.” Her

Chapter 4

AlexMy phone started vibrating at exactly 7:14 a.m. I slapped it quiet, rolled over, buried my face in the pillow. Two minutes later it went again. Then again. By the seventh buzz I was sitting up, cursing every rich-kid gene in his body, hair plastered to my forehead, sheets knotted around my ankles.I snatched the phone.Rise and shine, scholarship trash. You dream about me choking you against the glass last night?Next one hit before I could even blink.Bet you woke up leaking. Bet you hate how much you liked it.I stared so long the screen dimmed. Scrolled up. He’d been at it while I slept. You ran from the showers like your ass was on fire but we both know you wanted me to follow.Next time I catch you alone I’m not stopping at your lip.Stop pretending you don’t feel it.Then the one that actually made my stomach drop, Why won’t you just fucking admit it?I barked a laugh, aimed at myself more than him. Admit what? That I was fucked? That I replayed his hand on my throat on loo

Chapter 5

Alex I didn’t even make it on time to the financial aid office on purpose. The coach had emailed the whole team some bullshit about “mandatory compliance checks” and attached a spreadsheet with our names and times like we were signing up for flu shots. Mine was 2:17 p.m. I showed up at 2:30 because fuck being early for anything that could end me.When I arrived, the door was cracked. I pushed it open with my shoulder. The woman looked up fast, like she’d been hoping I’d no-show.“Alex Rivera?” Her voice was calm, too calm. “Come in. Sit.”I dropped into the chair. It squeaked so loud it echoed. Fake plant in the corner looked half-dead. Posters on the wall yelled “YOUR FUTURE STARTS HERE” in that ugly Comic Sans font that makes everything sound like a scam. I crossed my arms tight, trying to look chill. But I failed. She opened my file. Thin stack of papers. That made my pulse jump harder.“Grades are holding steady,” she said, flipping pages. “Econ’s sitting at a B-minus. Psych i

Chapter 6

Damien I couldn’t fucking believe I was doing this. One minute I was at team dinner pretending to give a shit about the pasta and Coach’s dumb speech, the next I saw Alex bolt like his ass was on fire. He looked wrong, shirt half open, face flushed, eyes glassy and something in my gut said spiked. Not drunk-spiked, actually spiked. Somebody slipped him something. I didn’t know who, didn’t care who, I just knew if I left him swinging on that rusty piece of shit in the park he’d either puke on himself or some random would roll him for his wallet. And yeah, fine, he’s my punching bag on the ice, the guy who makes every practice feel like foreplay and punishment at the same time, but I’m not letting him die out here like an idiot. So I followed. He didn’t even notice me until I grabbed the swing chains and yanked the whole thing still. “Thought I’d find you here,” I said, voice low because the last thing I needed was some park cop shining a flashlight on us. Alex’s head lolled back,

Chapter 7

Damien I moved. Sat on the very edge. Far as I could without falling off. Our thighs didn’t touch. Good.He scooted closer anyway. Shoulder bumped mine. “You smell good. Like sweat and angry boy.”“Stop sniffing me.”“Can’t help it. You’re close.”I turned my head. Our faces were inches apart. His breath smelled like tequila and mint gum he must have chewed earlier trying to sober up. Eyes half-lidded. Lips parted.“Don’t,” I said.“Don’t what?”“Don’t look at me like that.”“Like what?”“Like you want me to kiss you.”He smiled small. “Maybe I do.”I swallowed. Throat dry. “Bad idea.”“Best idea.”I leaned in. Just a bit . Testing him. He didn’t move away. Just waited.I kissed him.He sighed into my mouth. Hand came up, cupped my jaw. Gently. I deepened it. Tongue brushed his. He moaned quietly. Fingers slid into my hair.I pulled back fast. Breathing hard. “Fuck.”“Yeah,” he whispered. “Fuck.”I stared at him. Cheeks red. Lips wet. Eyes bright.“You okay?” he asked.“No. I’m not o

Chapter 8

DamienI couldn’t do it. Not like that. Not with him still floating somewhere between drunk and whatever the hell that spike had done to him, staring up at me with those glassy eyes begging for everything while my brain kept screaming that this was crossing a line I’d never come back from. I wasn’t about to wake up tomorrow feeling like I’d molested my own teammate, more like loverno matter how hard my dick was or how many times he’d said yes. So I shoved off him fast, chest heaving, and snatched my lighter off the nightstand like it was a goddamn lifeline. “Just… stay there,” I muttered, voice all rough and pissed at myself. “I need a smoke. Don’t move. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.”He laughed that sloppy laugh again, rolling onto his side and grabbing at the sheets like they were me. “You’re running away? Captain Damien scared of a little ass? Come on, I asked nice.”“Shut the fuck up, Alex,” I snapped back, already halfway to the door. “I’m not running. I’m not… I just

Chapter 9

Damien We went back and forth like that, him begging, me snapping at him to slow down, both of us laughing in the middle of it because it was ridiculous, me, the straight guy who’d hated him for months, prepping my rival’s virgin ass with spit like some desperate idiot. “You’re gonna regret mouthing off in a minute,” I told him, pulling my fingers out and lining up. “Ready?”“Do it,” he snapped, legs wrapping around my waist. “Now. Before I change my mind.”I pushed in slowly , inch by inch, groaning loud because holy shit he was tight, gripping me like he never wanted to let go. “Fuck… Alex… breathe, baby. You’re killing me here.”He whined high in his throat, nails digging into my back. “Big. Too big. But wait… stop. Move. Please.”I moved. Gently at first, then harder when he started moaning my name like it was the only word he knew. We kissed through it all, messy and wet, teeth clacking, him talking over me the whole time. “Faster yeah like that Damien, right there, fuck.” I’d

Chapter 10

DamienThe alarm blasted me awake at exactly four like the asshole timer I’d set myself, fuxkkk I looked at it again, hell nah, that's not four it was more, and there I was, still wrapped around Alex like some pathetic octopus who didn’t get the memo that one night was supposed to end at sunrise. My arm was locked tight around his waist, face smashed into the back of his neck and hair, and yeah the sticky everything between us hit me first, plus those little bite marks I’d left on his chest staring right up at me in the crappy half-dark. Mine for one fucking night, the thought slammed through my head so hard I almost laughed out loud at how stupid and greedy it sounded, but then reality kicked in, practice in a couple hours, my parents probably already clanking around downstairs like normal morning people, and Alex was gonna wake up any second and either freak or worse, go full ice-cold rival mode and pretend none of it happened.I tried to slide my arm out slowly, real careful, tel
