BLAKEI did not sleep all night…I sat in the chair by the bedroom window, watching the dark, running the next twelve hours through my head.Thinking of every angle.. every contingency and every single way this could go wrong. The trap we had set for Tristan and for the traitor in our midst.Rector.Even now the name felt wrong.Fifteen years of loyalty and of trust between us…and now I was feeding him false information, watching him take the bait, preparing to destroy him.I should have felt something. Anger. Grief. Betrayal. Instead, I just felt tired.Tricia was asleep on her side of the bed. She had fallen asleep sitting up, still in her clothes, with her shoes on…She couldn’t even get undressed before she slept…I guess that told me everything about how exhausted she actually was under all that front she was trying to put up.She had been through more in the past few days than most wolves endured in a lifetime, and she was still standing and fighting.I should look away, ignore

BLAKEA deafening silence fell in the room after that.No one spoke. No one seemed capable of itMe? I was stunned… Tricia was an Alpha. Not any Alpha…the Alpha of all Alphas.How..?I looked at my father. Then my gaze moved to the mark on Tricia's neck and then at Tricia.Suddenly, it made sense.I could recognize that mark…The Seal of the First Alpha. The original ruler before the bloodlines split. So that meant…the woman I had spent four days treating like a liability had just become the most powerful being in our world.Crazy would be a very big understatement…At this point, no one still had spoken. Then, Tricia looked at Gerald, then at me, then back at Gerald and finally, she spoke, her voice was flat and almost annoyed."I want everyone to be very clear that I did not ask for any of this."“Look.. I need to make this a little simpler for you.”Gerald started again, turning to me, as his words spilled out in a rush, desperate and defensive."The Seal of the First Alpha is no

TRICIAThe moment the bomb was dropped…the mood between both of us changed as well.Blake did not say a single word to me..instead, he went straight to his office and did not come out for two hours.I did not follow him. Instead, I sat in the Alpha quarters, thinking. For now..it was best I gave him his space to think. Over the short time I’ve been here…I’ve learned that Blake processed danger the way most people processed grief. He liked to be alone in a quiet place..I also knew that two hours of quiet Blake meant he was going to come out with a plan, not a problem. And…I was right. Of course I was.He came out at midnight with two cups of tea.Wow… that I did not expect.I gave him a strange look as I wanted to check if someone had replaced him. Blake Blackwood, the man who had called me a liability and a burden was now serving me tea..The thought alone was amusing enough to laugh about. He placed one cup in front of me and sat across the table. A lamplight next to him caugh

BLAKEI did not react immediately…In my position, finding out my father was as cunning and evil as he had been…maybe I would have snapped out in anger and frustration—But I didn’t…instead, I remained calm.Of course it wasn’t a natural habit. No. I had trained myself not to react to things that wanted a reaction from me. It was one of the most useful things I had ever learned, and right now it was the only thing holding me together. The rage was there, burning under the surface like a match stick eager to catch on something—but I kept it locked away. I would deal with it later. Right now, I needed information.I let Xavier into the room and closed the door behind him. Then I spoke, my tone clipped, "Talk. Tell me everything you know.”Xavier took a beat then started, laying it all out now. “Of course..I never liked Tricia since she arrived here..I always knew there was something extra and for that, I started my own personal investigation under the radar of course..”“I knew it

BLAKE My eyes immediately went searching for anything abnormal in the room…Come on… come on…We didn’t have much time, and—BINGO!I found it! I did it in under four minutes. That meant we still had at least a couple of minutesto get it out.It wasn’t obvious.Well, at least, it would not have been obvious to anyone who was not trained to look for it. But for me…i had spent my life noticing the smallest and minute details that people tend to miss-—It was a strange symbol carved on the underside of the head Elder's table. It was very small and by the freshness, one would guess it had been done only recently…I could recognize that symbol from anywhere I looked…It was the same kind of ancient binding mark used in old pack law to lock a ruling in place the moment it was spoken out loud.If Tristan's forged document was read aloud in this chamber with that symbol active, the false ruling would bind before anyone could challenge it. The Seal would be erased and therefore the contrac
