Bloody ice

KehlaniTrevor had somehow managed to escape detention. This new him was just so….weird and despicable. During lunch, he flirted with different girls. I couldn't eat inside the cafeteria so instead, I packed my lunch and went to the classroom. I was happy that Elliot didn't come to school. I don't want to think about what he's doing but I never wanted him to come close to me. Ever again. Someone stepped into the classroom and it's olive. She had also packed her food in a cellophane too. “Hey.” She greeted me and sat next to me. “Hey.” I replied, minding my business. We're quiet now which makes it awkward. “How are you?” She asked and opened her cellophane to eat. “I don't know. What about you?”“I don't know.” She shrugged, staring at me. “You shouldn't even bother to worry about me. I'm worried about you. Everything that has been happening. Are you okay?”I burst into tears. “No, I'm not.”She's taken aback by my sudden tears. “I'm sick. I'm tired. I'm depressed. How can I be h

An awkward prayer

Kehlani An hour later, the food was ready and I was in my room, thinking, just staring into that mirror. Dad forced me to go inside the room and not come out until I wore something pretty. I really don't want to dress like I'm excited. Instead I put on a plain white lace dress. I mean, if Trevor is coming, I don't want him to think I'm over him. I want to act so quiet and nervous. Maybe he would see through me. I left my room and then, crouched halfway down the stairs, I heard the sounds of voices. I peeped through the railing. I can hear Trevor's parents' laughter. They're here already. I clutched onto my chest, feeling nervous and crazy. How am I supposed to do this? Then footsteps. I almost ran but it was Dad that just came up from downstairs. “Hey, why aren't you out there?” he says, confused. “Mr and Mrs Casper have been asking about you. Go down already.”I managed a weak laughter. “Is Trevor there?”Dad stared at me quizzically. He blinks, caught off guard. “Why wouldn't he

The Threat

KehlaniWe started eating. I could barely eat well. Trevor, just stays relaxed, eating slowly. I wasn't comfortable. I was dying inwardly. The food barely tasted good in my mouth. Actually, it did. Delicious. But the problem was me. Since Trevor broke up with me, I've been managing to eat. The energy was no longer there. Forks and spoons clattered onto the plates. Everyone was eating silently. In my thoughts, I begged. Please, don't let anyone bring up our relationship as a conversation. “So…” Mrs begins, setting her glass down after sipping from her wine. “How's school for the both of you?”Both of you. She's talking to us. The fork in my fingers trembled. I couldn't even look up from my plate. She continued. “Especially now that you're both in the final. Actually, you'd be graduating from high school in no time already.” She says happily, looking at me and Trevor like we're the golden couple. “So?”Trevor cuts a piece of chicken. “Fine.”Just fine. “Well, you two are good for eac

it doesn't always end right

Kehlani “Actually, I…I just wanted to say that, well. Kehlani and I have decided to break up.”He said the words causal. Too casual. Dropped it like a bomb. My heart starts beating faster than it was. His parents and my Dad, they all froze mid-air with their spoons. I looked at him, biting my lips in pain. I was angry at the whole situation. I held back the tears first. The fork dropped from my hold, my whole body was quivering like I was on fire. “WHAT?” The trio screamed.Trevor pursed his lips. “Ain't that right, Kehlani. Tell them.”I couldn't say anything. I just returned a depressed stare back. No, Trevor. Please. Don't do this in front of our parents. My toes curled. I grabbed my phone immediately and went to his chat to type. Kehlani: Why are you saying this in front of them? Stop. Please. His phone buzzed. That was my message. He typed quickly Trevor: Don't stop this. I'm tired of pretending in front of them. Dad snapped his head to Trevor and me. “Is it true?”“Tell the

Not for me

Kehlani I feel suffocated by the heavy lights. These fucking tight feels made me angry. Like I couldn't breathe. But I had to cooperate. Any moment from now, I'd be on stage accomplished by applause and cheers. Dad was grinning so hard he could suffer from lip ache, if anything like that exists. I took a deep breath. Different scents of perfume and Cologne filled the decorated hall. Now, it's just no ordinary hall. Full of sponsors, Influencers, some few celebrities, producers, etc. it made me happy and curious for a moment. I could also be popular like them. Olive kept on tapping my laps, pointing at elite people. They're here, not just for the golden lens scholarship but for the golden lens award program for actors and actresses. It was very special and sophisticated. It also shows the level of Trevor's parents net worth and their achievements. Trevor didn't come. He's not coming, all because of me. At the front of the hub, are my shots I used to win each level of the program,

His true words

Kehlani “Oh.” I said to no one, sadly watching their back as he left with her. He must be dating her now. I feel odd now. Like all the happiness and celebrations had been sucked up by their presence. My hands start shaking. I hated how weak I was, how emotional I got too easily. How hurt I'm feeling right now. “Don't you dare fucking cry.” I said to myself trying to inhale and exhale. I didn't pile the chairs home, I just went to meet Dad and Olive. Big distraction. I'll use them to distract myself from hurting, just for the time being. By the time we had left the hub, Dad and I were at the backseat of the car taking us home. It was such a big day. I had mixed feelings. I would have only been happier if nothing had come in the way of Trevor and I. Now it all just feels bad. “Kiddo.”Dad called and I turned to him. “Yes?”“Are you doing okay? I mean…..I know It's hard for you. The breakup and–”“Breakup?” I repeated, trying to act like I'm not affected at all. I don't want Dad to

To be there for you

Kehlani My day just got a lot worse. I couldn't even concentrate in class. I love Trevor too much that I still wanted to talk to him. Still wanted him to give us a chance to date again. But he doesn't want that. I think he's scared, so maybe, maybe I should just do as he says. It's time to…..move on. I guess. Begging would only cause me much pain. He has already forgiven me so I guess I should forgive myself to become more happy too. I bowed my head on the desk all throughout the class. I really can't wait to get out of high school. During class lecture, I'm scribbling on my notes, doing whatever it takes to get Trevor out of my head. The bell rang and chairs scraped. Closing time already. The class emptied as people left. I didn't even bother to check if Trevor was still sitting, I just stood up and left. Heading for the exit. I'm halfway to the exit when I see him. Elliot. How on earth or….why on earth is he here? I thought he's still on suspension. My breath caught and I turned

confusion

Kehlani As the cab pulled up in front of the hospital, I ran out, then walked into the hospital, swinged the ER doors open. The antiseptic smell of the room got me. “Trevor Casper.” I say to the front desk. “Uh, he was brought in here from a fire accident.”The nurse looked me up and down. “Who are you to the patient?”“He's my boy- he's my friend.” I corrected myself fast. She checks the screen then points to Hall C. “Room 4, he's stable and the cops are there.”Cops. My stomach twisted. “Okay. Thank you.”I left the desk and scurried into hall c. I peeped into Room 4. The door was half open. Cops are seated by the chair in front of the room by the hallway. This case got to be serious. Elliot's coach is also with them. I looked back inside the room. Trevor's on the bed, bare chested. A gauze is wrapped around his forearm. There's also a cut on the eyebrow. His gaze is focused on his arms. Brows furrowed and his chest rose and fell. He doesn't even look hurt. He looked pissed. I too

A very stupid idea

Kehlani I rolled my eyes at Elliot, not allowing the bitter truth to get into my head. The cops, annoyed by his loud attitude, shut him up immediately. I found my way back into Trevor's room but he was already standing by the door, shirt on. I managed to step back before I bumped into him. “Yo!” He barked, to no one in particular. All heads turned up. “Let's get this case done with.” He referred to the cops by Elliot's side. “Who's getting arrested? Me or him or both of us? Who knows what'll happen if I'm sharing a cell with him.” One of the cops raised his hand. “Hey, hey-”Trevor ignored him and dragged his eyes over to Elliot like he could shoot lasers from his eyes. Elliot scoffed from the bench, dropping the ice bags. “You wish, Trevor, you're the one who lost it and torched your own rink. Again.”Trevor laughed. “This is why you should stay in a psychiatric hospital and not school. You're an animal. You say meaningless things. Come on, don't deny it. You started that shit.”I

Something fishy

Kehlani She left. I continued to wipe my tears that didn't stop falling. I've never felt so stupid and lame and foolish. Being slapped by my Ex's girlfriend. My chest is tight, suffocated by what Lydia had displayed. I bowed my head as I left the hospital, my tears still burned against my cheeks. I stopped a cab and entered. As the city moved past in smears of yellow and red, I couldn't help but think about Lydia's words. They kept on ringing in my ears. I'm slowly starting to accept that Trevor is finally happy with her and I don't matter to him anymore. All throughout the ride, I'm looking at my reflection, trying not to hate how I look right now. I got home and met Dad also walking in. He's just coming back from the shop. “Hey, my baby.” Dad smiled when he saw me. I didn't waste time. I ran into his arms, hugging him and sniffing. He dropped his bag and embraced me warmly. I cleaned my tears and sniffed. “Welcome back. Dad.” We detached and walked in. “Thank you. Where are you
